Kick-Off Brunch Honors SSU's
Women's Basketball Coach

September 17, 2012

More than 160 Shawnee State University Bear Club members, alumni and community friends gathered to preview the upcoming season and celebrate Robin Hagen-Smith's 30 years of coaching at 2012-2013 SSU Women's Basketball Kick-Off Brunch on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Funds raised will support enhancements to the SSU women's basketball program. Alumni women's basketball players from the past three decades were represented, including members of the 2010 National Tournament Championship Runner-Up team and the 1999 NAIA National Championship team.

Current players were introduced including the first international player at SSU, Diane Abbady, from the Ivory Coast in Africa.

Students who played on the 2009-10 team, part of the National Championship Runner Up Team and Fab Four as freshmen and sophomores were Alex Pohl, Kayla Wiley, Catrice Mitchell, Tristan Rumfield and Allison Nagle.

Hagan-Smith is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Basketball Hall of Fame, the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame and last year made the 600 career wins milestone.

Gifts and support can still be sent to SSU Development Foundation, 940 Second St., Portsmouth, OH 45662. The 2013 Bear Club memberships are also available. For more information, call (740) 351-3284.
