Shawnee State University to Host Careers in Chemistry
Shawnee State University will be hosting Careers in
Chemistry from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 with
registration beginning at 8:45 a.m. in Massie Hall, Room
020. The event is being held in conjunction with National
Chemistry Week.
Participants
must be sixth grade students or sixth grade teachers in
Scioto County who are interested in learning about chemistry
and experimenting with chemistry. The program will begin
with guest speakers in the morning and participants will do
hands-on activities throughout the rest of the day.
The theme for
National chemistry week this year is “Chemistry in the
Movies” therefore participants will be doing activities that
focus on special effects used in the movies.
Some examples
of things that participants will be exploring include
artificial snow, artificial fog or mist, breaking glass,
ancient paper with disappearing ink, and other activities
that focus on chemistry principles.
Deadline for
registration is October 16 and the class is limited to 25
students. The course is free and lunch is included.
For more
information or to register, contact Wendi Fleeman at
