            The nursing program at Shawnee State University is opening spring semester for 30 more students than in the past. Students who want to get into the program are encouraged to apply for spring semester and the deadline has been extended to October 1.
            “We are actually redistributing the numbers to have more seats in the spring,” said Dr. Mattie Burton, associate dean and chair of Nursing. “We are encouraging people who want to be in the nursing program to apply now for spring.”
            In the fall, the seats have been reduced to allow more for the spring semester. Now with the change, there will be an even distribution of 60 students in the spring and 60 students in the fall.
            “We also have a very active LPN to RN transition program and would like to encourage applications from people who want in the program to apply now,” Burton said.
            Applications are not held so every semester, the Nursing Department needs a new application from students applying for the program.
