While many students took a vacation this summer, Walker Stewart, psychology major at Shawnee State University, spent more than 110 hours of his summer volunteering with the Senior Employment Center, a division of Mature Services Inc., in Portsmouth.
The Senior Employment Center provides community-based services to train, motivate and empower mature job-seekers. Stewart worked one-on-one with seniors to help them create up-to-date professional resumes and expand their abilities to do an Internet job search.
"Walker was able to gain valuable field work experience," said Sarah Lowe, training specialist at the center. "We really appreciated all of his efforts."
He also assisted the agency by interviewing participants who have obtained employment to tell their story for media opportunities. Stewart's articles are used for marketing and media awareness of the center's success stories.
