Children from several schools – 260 children in all – participated in the annual Week of the Young Child Children's Fair on Wednesday, April 17 at Shawnee State University's Rhodes Athletic Center in the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium.
Employees and students from the SSU Dr. Miller and Genevieve Toombs Children's Learning Center, State Support Team Region 15, Portsmouth Public Library, Vern Riffe School, Cirque d' Art, SSU Women's Basketball, SSU Occupational Therapy, SSU Teacher Education, Scioto County Head Start, the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center, Portsmouth City Schools and the Literacy Council of Scioto County all gave support in the planning and execution of the fair.
Steve Free entertained the children with music. Events included a puppet show, obstacle course, music and dance, parachute/chalk walk, basketball, tattoos, a sensory station, a jumper and gymnastics.
The Literacy Council gave each child a new book. Sodexo and the South Central Ohio ESC provided snacks.
"It was truly a collaborative effort to support young learners in Scioto County," said CLC Director Beth Rice.
