Shawnee State University has been recognized as a "safe" campus with zero OSHA recordable loss time from injuries and illnesses in 2012. By national standards SSU is a very safe campus.
The national average incidence rate for institutions the size of Shawnee State would be 28 injuries and/or illnesses per year and SSU had only seven.
The university is approaching one million man hours worked without a loss time accident or injury.
"In recent years we have brought our incidence rate down well below the national average for colleges and universities of our size," said Joe Van Deusen, associate director, Environment Health & Safety/Facilities. "This has been accomplished by increased tracking and improved training of employees."
