            Shawnee State University will be holding its 2010 Distinguished Service Award luncheon on Friday, April 16, from noon until 1:30 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
            This year the Distinguished Service Award will be awarded to SSU Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Hagen Smith.
            This year’s award will be the sixth ceremony over the years. Hagen-Smith is in her twenty-seventh year as Women's Head Basketball Coach at SSU with an overall record of 611-180. She is ranked as the fifth National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes all-time winning active coach and the ninth overall winning coach ever in the NAIA.
            “We have many wonderful people on our campus who have worked diligently and done very important things to support and encourage women,” Roberta Milliken, director of the Women’s Center at SSU said. “This award is our way of paying tribute to them and thanking them for their efforts.”
            The luncheon was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 18, but was rescheduled because of the SSU Women’s basketball team returning from the NAIA national tournaments in Sioux City, Iowa, that same week.
