As a way to spotlight restaurants who offer special discounts to Shawnee State University students, faculty, and staff, local restaurants and Main Street Portsmouth have teamed up with SSU to launch a "We Feed the Bears" promotion.
"Our local restaurants take very good care of our students," Dr. Rita Rice Morris, SSU President, said. "Many offer tremendous discounts – and our stuents and families appreciate that."
Participating businesses, including Applebee's, Arby's on Chillicothe Street, China City, Fork and Finger, Gatti's Pizza, LaRosa's Pizzeria, Perry's Pizza Barn in Portsmouth, Port City Café and Pub, Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Wheelersburg Subway on Gallia Street, Toro Loco Mexican Restaurant on Washington Street, Portsmouth Pizzeria on 11th Street, Market Street Café, Melini's Ristorante, and Pizza Hut in Portsmouth, offer discounts to patrons who show their SSU ID. These businesses carry signs saying "We Feed the Bears" and are featured on SSU's website.
"It's a great way for us to let students know that our restaurants welcome them and are here for them," Mark Hunter, Main Street Portsmouth Board Member, said. "We're hoping that the program will continue to grow."
