            Shawnee State University’s Assistant Professor of English and Humanities Neil Carpathios has announced the winners of the 2010 Shawnee State University Student Writing Awards.
            Students had three categories that they were able to choose from including fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry. One winner was chosen from each category with a maximum of two honorable mentions per category.
            Each winner received a cash prize of $25 and publication in the spring edition of Silhouette magazine. Each honorable mention received a gift card of $5 and possible publication in the spring edition of the Silhouette magazine.
            The winners and honorable mentions include:
            Fiction Category
                        Winner: Lori McNelly for “Teresa”
                        Honorable Mention: Christina Jones for “The Mechanic’s Daughter”
            Creative Nonfiction Category
                        Winner: Christina Jones for “The Death of Me”
                        Honorable Mention: Lori McNelly for “The Boy Who Lived”
            Poetry Category
                        Winner: Matt McGuire for “Poor Bastard Blues: A Radio Affair”
                        Honorable Mention: Kevin LeMaster for “Egg”
