'In the Heights' musical
coming to Shawnee State

Feb. 8, 2012

The award-winning musical "In the Heights" is coming to Shawnee State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

"In the Heights" began as an original musical conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda during his sophomore year at Wesleyan University and transpired into the award-winning new classic it is today.

Winner of four 2008 Tony Awards including best musical, best score, best choreography and best orchestrations, "In the Heights" is an inspiring, relatable show that captivates the audience and keeps feet tapping from the beginning to the very end.

"In the Heights" is the story of a vibrant community in Manhattan's Washington Heights, a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is always light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music.

It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressure where the biggest decisions will be which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Tickets may be purchased by visiting the McKinley Box Office at Shawnee State University's Vern Riffe Center for the Arts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, online at www.ticketmaster.com or any Ticketmaster Outlet, or by calling (740) 351-3600. Student and group discounts are available. For more information, visit www.sopaa.org.
