On Thursday, Jan. 19, The Salvation Army partnered with Shawnee State University to bring local children to a women's basketball game. For most of the children, it was a first-time experience with a college level athletic event.
The children cheered on the team as they went on to defeat West Virginia Tech 91-58. Some were so excited that they began jumping and shouting their encouragement to the team.
They enjoyed the game, but they admitted the greatest moment for them was about halfway through the first half when they spotted Shawn E. Bear coming toward them. For many, the highlight of the outing was laughing and playing with Shawnee's mascot and looking forward to cheering on the Bears at future events.
