Shawnee State University Student Writing Awards Deadline Approaching

Submissions for the 2011 Shawnee State University Student Writing contest are now being accepted. Winners will be chosen in three categories, best poem, best short fiction story and best creative non-fiction essay. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 1.

All entries must be typed, double-spaced, with contact information (name, phone number and e-mail) included. All entries must also specify the desired category of the submission. Students may submit to more than one category, but only one piece will be accepted for each category.

Three winners will be chosen by Assistant Professor Neil Carpathios and other English department members. Each winner will receive $75 and will be published in the spring edition of the Silhouette magazine. Up to two honorable mentions will be awarded in each category.

Honorable mentions will each receive $25 and possible publication in the Silhouette magazine. Winners and honorable mentions will also receive certificates.

The English department reserves the right to not grant awards in certain categories if there is a lack of submissions or quality submissions.
