The Shawnee State University Outreach Services will be offering a series of food safety classes provided by ServSafe, the leading food safety training and certification program.
The goal of the classes is to provide students with comprehensive training and a state-approved food safety certification.
Research shows that food workers often lack safe food-handling knowledge, specifically related to temperature control, hygiene and sanitization. ServSafe is the highest standard in training and certification and gives employees the tools to understand food safety and the importance of its role.
The classes will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28 and Friday, March 1. Concepts that will be covered include sanitation, the flow of food through the operation, and sanitary facilities and pest management.
Attending the full two-day training, including instruction, textbook, exam and lunches costs $289. Attending day two only – including a refresher course instruction, exam and lunch – costs $199 with the textbook and $119 without it. Attending the exam only costs $89. The exam will take place at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
