ROBIN HAGEN-SMITH TO BE INDUCTED INTO NAIA HALL OF FAME

Coach Robin Hagen-Smith already has a long list of
accomplishments on her resume; however March 2011 she can
add the highest honor yet: induction into the NAIA Hall of
Fame. Hagen-Smith joins an elite group of 20
individuals that will be inducted this year including
Scottie Pippen and Bill Odell.
"It is an incredible honor to be inducted into the NAIA Hall of
Fame," said Coach Robin Hagen-Smith. "I am proud to be
affiliated with the NAIA organization and all it represents. I
would like to thank all the players and staff who have been
associated with our basketball program at Shawnee State University.
It has been a rewarding experience for me to coach so many
outstanding student athletes who have contributed greatly to our
success. I have truly been blessed, and it has been a privilege to
be involved in the teaching and coaching profession over the years."
Robin Hagen-Smith
started her coaching career in 1983 when Shawnee State was
still a community college. In 1989 she guided the
Bears transition from community college into the NAIA as a
four-year institution. In her 27 years of coaching,
Robin Hagen-Smith has posted an overall record of 640-187
and is one of the NAIA all-time winningest active coaches
and overall winningest coaches ever. During her tenure
at Shawnee State she has led the Bears to 17 national
tournament appearances, 10 conference championships,
National Runner-up in 2010, and a National Championship in
1999. Hagen-Smith has received many coaching awards
that include MOC and AMC Coach of the Year honors six times,
1997-1998 WBCA IKON Coach of the Year, 1999 NAIA National
Coach of the Year, 1999 Dispatch Women's Ohio Basketball
Coach of the Year, and in 2008 was named the NAIA Region IX
Coach of Character.
Hagen-Smith played
basketball for Shawnee State Community College from
1979-1981 and then transferred to the University of Rio
Grande. In 1989 she was inducted into the Rio Grande
Athlete Hall of Fame and in 1998 she was inducted into the
South Webster Hall of Fame. She received the
Portsmouth Spirit of Leadership Award in 1999.
Hagen-Smith was inducted into Shawnee State's Athletic Hall
of Fame with the Inaugural Class in 2000 and was inducted in
2009 as part of the NAIA National Championship Team.
In 2010 she was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of
Fame.
Coach Hagen-Smith
is also active off the court as she is a full-time faculty
member at Shawnee State, Shawnee State's Champions of
Character Liaison and is also active in her church.
Hagen-Smith and her husband, Gregg, who has been her
assistant since 1988, have two children, Ali and Aleza.

WOMEN'S
BASKETBALL HOLDS INDIVIDUAL CAMP
The Shawnee State women's
basketball team had over 70 girls' attend their Individual
Camp from June 7 through June 10. Campers ranged from
grades 3 to grades 8 and learned skills including dribbling,
shooting and defense.

AND '99 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM INDUCTED INTO OHIO BASKETBALL HALL
OF FAME
Robin Hagen-Smith, along with
SSU's 1999 National Championship Women's Basketball Team was
inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. The
ceremony took place at the Convention Center in Columbus,
Ohio on May 22. Coach Hagen-Smith and the National
Championship Team, joined an elite group of inductees
including ten coaches, six college players, a club owner,
and an official in the 2010 Hall of Fame Class.
Coach Hagen-Smith took over Shawnee State
when it was just a community college and has bolstered the
program into a perennial national contender at the NAIA
level. Over her 27 years, Coach Hagen-Smith has led
the Bears to a remarkable record of 636-186, including a
record of 560-134 in the NAIA. Coach Hagen-Smith has
led the Bears to seventeen national tournament appearances,
finishing with 11 Sweet Sixteen's, two Elite Eight's, one
Final Four, one National Runner-up, and a National
Championship in 1999. During her tenure at Shawnee
State, Coach Hagen-Smith has captured 10 conference
championships, including six consecutive titles from
1997-2002. Coach Hagen-Smith has been named MOC and
AMC Coach of the Year six times, 1997-1998 WBCA IKON Coach
of the Year, 1998-1999 NAIA National Coach of the Year,
1998-1999 Dispatch Women's Ohio College Basketball Coach of
the Year, and in 2007-2008 was named the NAIA Region IX
Coach of Character Award Winner.
Joining Robin Hagen-Smith in the Ohio
Basketball Hall of Fame was the 1999 National Championship
Women's Basketball Team. The team defeated St. Francis
80-65 in the championship game to capture the title.
The Bears compiled a 31-2 record that season and were
American Mideast Conference regular season champions.
Members of the 1999 Women's Basketball Team include NAIA
National Player of the Year Erica Hayes, Brandi Baker,
Carrie Brisker, Mamie Brisker, Cheri Griffith, Becky Holden,
Brandy Humphrey, Susie Kline, Brandi Munn, Steffani Slone,
Kelli Smith and Sarah Ward.

ALBERS
NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
Senior Mallory Albers has been
named 1st Team All-American after leading her team to an
NAIA Division II National Runner-up Title and to a record of
29-7 on the season. Albers earned 3rd Team
All-American honors last season and becomes the 7th women's
basketball player to earned 1st Team All-American status.
Albers, a 5-7 guard from Fort Loramie,
Ohio, led the Bears in scoring as she averaged over 17
points and tallied 635 points and was 2nd on the team as she
pulled down 206 rebounds, dished out 109 assists, and had 83
steals on the season. She also accumulated 27 blocks.
On the season Albers shot 41% from the field, 35% from
beyond the arc, and 83% at the line. Albers scored 20
points or more in 14 of the Bears contests this season and
scored a career-high 33 points in the Bears' victory at
Roberts Wesleyan on January 29.
Last season, Albers led the team in
scoring as she averaged 15 points per game, tallying 479
points on the season.
The two-time All-American finishes her
four-year career with 1,620 points, ranking 5th on Shawnee
State's all-time roster.
Albers is a three-time American Mideast
Conference selection and has been named an NAIA Scholar
Athlete twice.

FIVE BEARS NAMED
NAIA SCHOLAR ATHLETES
The Shawnee State women's
basketball doesn't just succeed on the court, but they also
excel in the classroom. All five of their juniors and
seniors were named NAIA Scholar Athletes as they have
accumulated a grade point average of 3.5 in the classroom.
Named NAIA Scholar Athletes were seniors Mallory Albers,
Alison Meyer, and Whitney Williams and juniors Jill Cropper
and Keilee Guthrie.
Albers, a 5-7 guard from Fort Loramie,
Ohio, is a Natural Science major, with a concentration in
Biology. She was accepted into SSU's Occupational
Therapy's program and will begin in the Fall of 2010.
Meyer, a 6-0 forward from Hamler, Ohio, is
majoring in Middle School Education, concentrating in Math
and Science.
Williams, a 5-9 guard from Coshocton,
Ohio, is a Dental Hygiene major.
Cropper, a 5-11 center from Georgetown,
Ohio, is a double-major in the Physical Therapy program and
Exercise Science.
Guthrie, a 5-9 forward from Albany, Ohio,
is majoring in Sport Management.

ALBERS LEADS BEARS IN AMC RECOGNITION; FIVE BEARS EARN AMC
STATUS
Five Shawnee State women's basketball players earned
American Mideast Conference status for the 2009-2010 season.
Senior Mallory Albers earned 1st Team All-American Mideast
Conference honors, while teammate senior Alison Meyer was
named 2nd Team All-AMC. Junior Jill Cropper and senior
Whitney Williams both earned honorable mention recognition
for the Bears, while Catrice Mitchell was named to the AMC
Freshman Team.
Albers, a
guard from Fort Loramie, Ohio, leads the Bears in scoring as
she averages 17.8 points per game. She has totaled 552
points so far this season and currently ranks 5th on Shawnee
State's all-time roster with 1,505 points. Albers
ranks second on the team, averaging 5.8 rebounds, 3.1
assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Albers has
scored 20 points or more in 12 of the Bears' contests this
season and scored in double-figures all but four. She
has posted four double-doubles on the season. Albers
tallied a career-high 33 points in the Bears' 83-71 win at
Roberts Wesleyan on January 30.
Meyer, a
forward from Hamler, Ohio, averaged 11.1 points and 5.5
points. Meyer also tallied 38 assists, 37 steals, and
27 blocks on the season. During this season Meyer has scored
345 points and currently ranks 12th on SSU's all-time roster
with 1,242. This season, Meyer has scored in
double-figures in 17 of the Bears' contests and registered
three double-doubles on the season. She tallied a
career-high 23 points twice this season, one in the Bears'
89-42 win over Midway and another in Shawnee State's 77-75
setback at Notre Dame.
Cropper,
a center from Georgetown, Ohio, lead the team with 7.1
rebounds and was third on the team as she averaged 11.7
points per game. She has also tallied 51 assists, 32
steals, and 16 blocks on the season. Cropper has
scored in double-figures in 16 of the Bears games and
accumulated three double-doubles this season. She
tallied a career-high 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds
in the Bears 95-75 win over Concordia on November 7.
Williams,
a sharp-shooter from Coshocton, Ohio, is second on the team
in scoring as she averages 12.5 points per game. On
the season, Williams has hit 91 3-pointers, which is one shy
of tying the Shawnee State record for 3-pointers in a
season. She also tied the record for 3-pointers in a
game as she drained eight 3-pointers in the Bears 83-72 win
at Mount Vernon. Williams has also tallied 73
rebounds, 50 assist, and 37 steals on the season. She
has tallied double-figures in 21 of Shawnee State's games
and has hit 5 or more 3-pointers in seven contests for the
Bears this season.
Mitchell,
a center from Columbus, Ohio, averaged 4.4 points and 4.4
rebounds per game for the Bears and led the team with 36
blocks on the season. Mitchell's best game of the
season she tallied 12 points and pulled down a career-high
18 rebounds in the 82-65 win at Northwestern Ohio on
February 2.

ALBERS NAMED AMC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albers, a 5-7 senior guard from Fort Loramie,
Ohio, earned the honor of AMC Player of the Week for the
second time this season for the NAIA Division II #4 Bears.
Albers
pumped in a game-high 27 points to lead Shawnee State to a
91-72 win versus NAIA Division I #25 Georgetown. The
outcome avenged an 80-76 setback on the Tigers' home floor
earlier this season.
Albers made
9-of-11 shots from the field in the victory, including
1-of-2 outside the three-point line, and she converted all
eight of her free throws. She added five rebounds,
three assists, two blocks, and two steals.
ALBERS NAMED AMC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shawnee State guard Mallory Albers has been selected the
AMC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played
on November 9 - 15.
Albers, a 5-7 senior from Fort Loramie,
Ohio, averaged 29 points per game as the NAIA Division II #5
Bears split two games at the Georgetown (KY) Classic.
Albers opened with 29 points as SSU
knocked off NAIA Division I #5 Lee (TN), 73-70 in overtime.
She posted a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds in
an 80-76 setback to host Georgetown.
Albers made 19-of-30 shots from the field
including a 7-for-11 showing on three-pointers for 64
percent. She also hit 13-of-17 free throws for 76.5%.
Albers added 12 rebounds, five steals, three assists, and
one block.
ALBERS HAS BIG WEEKEND AS No. 5 BEARS SPLIT AT GEORGETOWN'S
HABITAT CLASSIC
Senior Mallory Albers averaged 29 points, six rebounds,
and two steals as
NAIA No. 5 ranked Shawnee State Bears split a pair of game
at Georgetown in the Habitat Classic over the weekend.
Shawnee State goes to 3-1 on the season.
