SSU ANNOUNCES FALL
OPEN WORKOUT
The Shawnee State University men's soccer program would
like to announce that Sunday, November 22nd is the date for
the fall open workout. The workout will begin at 1:00
p.m. on the campus of Shawnee State University with
registration beginning at 12:00pm. All high school aged
players and collegiate transfers are eligible to
participate. The workout will include training sessions, a
full scrimmage, introduction of the returning Shawnee State
University men's soccer players, and a tour of campus. The
workout will conclude at 4:00 p.m.
The workout is
designed to allow prospective players to show what skills
they have, and it also allows the SSU staff determine who
may be a great fit for the Bears in the future.
To be eligible to play at Shawnee State
University a student/athlete must meet two out of three
criteria:

GPA -2.00 or above
-
ACT -18 or above
-
Graduate top 1/2 of your class

FOUR NAMED TO HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMC
Forwards Luke Purpero, Steven Cox, midfielder Drew
Sampson, and defender Ryan Beatty each earned All-American
Mideast Conference postseason recognition. Shawnee
State finished with its most
successful season in school history as the Bears compiled an
overall record of 8-8-1 on the season.
Purpero, a sophomore
from Waverly, Ohio, started in 15 games for the Bears.
He led the Bears with six goals on the season including two
game winning goals. He also ranks second on the team
as he tallied four assists.
Cox,
a junior from Upper Arlington, has started in
16 game this season. Cox scored three goals including
one game winner on the season to go along with one assist.
This is the third time Cox has earned all-conference
recognition.
Sampson, a senior
from Wheelersburg, Ohio, started in all 17 games for the
Bears. Sampson scored one goal for the Bears and
tallied two assist on the season.
Beatty, a freshman from Waynesville, Ohio,
has started in all 17 games for Shawnee State. From
his defensive position, Beatty has tallied one assist for
the Bears.

PURPERO NAMED AMC
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SSU's forward Luke Purpero (Waverly, OH) was named
American Mideast Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He
registered two goals and two assists during a pair of
victoris for the Bears.
Purpero played a part in all three goals
in a 3-1 win versus Mount St. Joseph with a goals and two
assists. He netted the game-tying goal and later
assisted on the winner.
Purpero ended the week by scoring the only
goal in a 1-0 decision at St. Catharine. She State
enter the week at 4-1 overall. |
