BEARS MOVE UP TO THE 6TH SPOT IN NAIA
RANKINGS
The Shawnee State men's cross country team moves up to
the sixth spot in the NAIA rankings for rating #5.
Shawnee State moved up after placing 3rd at the All-Ohio
Meet last Friday finishing ahead of many NCAA Division I
schools including the University of Cincinnati, Ohio
University and the University of Akron. Ohio State won
the event with 28 points and Malone University finished 2nd
with 76 points. The Bears were just 18 points behind
conference opponent Malone. This is the highest finish
Shawnee State has ever placed at All-Ohio.
Michael Owen (Reedsville, OH) and Corey Culbertson (Logan,
OH) led the Bears at All-Ohio as they finished 13th and 14th
respectively in a time of 27:00. Galen Dills finished
the course in 27:14, good enough for 19th place. Shane Meyer
(Rockbridge, OH) placed 22nd overall and ran the course in
27:25. Josh Linkous (South Webster, OH) placed 26th
and finished the course in 27:34. Rounding out the
Bears scoring was Chuck Wentz (Proctorville, OH) who
finished 39th overall (27:43) and Tyler Hickey (Seaman, OH)
who placed 60th (28:07).
The Bears moved up to the sixth after holding the ninth spot
for two weeks. So far this season the Bears have
captured two meet championships to go along with the 3rd
place finish at All-Ohio.
This is the highest ranking the Shawnee State men's cross
country team has ever received since in the sports 12-year
existence.

BEARS RANKED No. 9 IN NAIA RANKINGS
The Shawnee State men's cross country team holds the 9th
spot in the NAIA rankings for the second straight week.
The Bears moved up to No. 9 in the NAIA Men's Cross Country
Coaches' Top 25 poll after an impressive win at the
Friendship Invitational at Cedarville University.
Shawnee State won the meet with a team score of 29 beating
AMC foe Cedarville by 52 points. Michael Owen
(Reedsville, OH) led the Bears with a 2nd place finish at
the Friendship Invitational in a personal best 25:41.
Corey Culbertson (Logan, OH) placed 4th overall in a time of
25:45. Shane Meyer (Rockbridge, OH) and Josh Linkous (South
Webster, OH) each ran personal bests as they finished 6th
and 7th, finishing the course in 25:54 and 25:55.
Galen Dills (Chillicothe, OH) ran 26:05 to finish 10th
overall. Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was
Tyler Hickey (Seaman, OH) who finished 19th overall and ran
26:20 and Chuck Wentz (Proctorville, OH) who ran a time of
26:26 and finished 22nd overall.
The Bears began the season pre-ranked 18th and moved up to
the 12th spot after accumulating a perfect score at the
Shawnee State Invitational and winning it for the eighth
consecutive year. Ninth is the highest ranking Shawnee
State has ever received in the sports 12-year existence.

BEARS RANKED No. 9 IN NAIA RANKINGS
The Shawnee State men's cross country team moved up to
No. 9 in the NAIA Men's Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 poll
in week three's rankings. The Bears moved up three
spots after being ranked No. 12 last week, after an
impressive win at the Friendship Invitational at Cedarville
University over the weekend. Shawnee State won the
meet with a team score of 29 beating AMC foe Cedarville by
52 points. This is the highest ranking Shawnee State
has ever received.
Shawnee State travels to the All-Ohio Meet
in Delaware, Ohio on Friday, October 2. The men's race
begins at 2:00 p.m., with the women's race to follow at 2:45
p.m.

BEARS MOVE UP TO No. 12 IN NAIA
RANKINGS/WOMEN RANKED 22ND
The Shawnee State men's cross country team moved up to
No. 12 in the NAIA Men's Cross Country Coaches' first
regular season Top 25 poll. The Bears began the season
ranked No. 18, but moved up after tallying a perfect score
in the Shawnee State Invitational. AMC foe Malone
University is ranked No. 1 in poll and Cedarville University
is ranked just ahead of the
Bears at No. 11.
The Shawnee State women's cross country
team is ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Women's Cross Country
Coaches' first regular season Top 25. The Bears were
not ranked in the Top 25 in the preseason, but did receive
votes. The Bears have had a strong showing so far this
season, as they have finished 2nd only nine points behind
NAIA No. 22
ranked Cedarville University at the
Shawnee State Invitational and finished 4th at the Queen
City Invitational behind three NCAA Division I schools.
Malone University is ranked No. 6 in the Top 25 poll.
Shawnee State travels to Cedarville
University on Saturday to run in the 19th annual Friendship
Invitational.

MEN'S CROSS
COUNTRY LANDS 18TH ON PRESEASON POLL
The Shawnee State men's cross country team has landed
18th on the preseason polls to begin the 2009 season.
Shawnee State finished 11th last year at the NAIA National
Meet and returns four of its six runners that participated
at the national level. Lost from last year's squad is
All-American Keegan Rathkamp, honorable mention All-AMC
runner Paul Webb and Zach Holbert. Returning for the
Bears are seniors Tyler Hickey, Joe Jinks and Corey
Culbertson; juniors All-AMC honoree Josh Linkous, Michael
Owen, Weston Thobaben and Chuck Wentz; and sophomores Reece
Brown, Warren Hinkle and Shane Meyer. Newcomers to the
team include junior transfer Eric Holbrook and freshmen
Keith Aeiker, Chris Anderson, Brandon Brown, Galen Dills,
Eli Gerlach, Jeremy Hornick, Justin Kammler, Dirk Kostoff,
Chris Suzuki and Blake Wysocki. |
