RACELAND'S BOYLES TO BECOME A BEAR
Raceland High School’s Tyler Boyles has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State.  Boyles joins an elite 2009-2010 recruiting class that includes Tyler, Morgan, Mark Bryant, Tom Berlekamp, and Zack Metz. 

Boyles is a four-year letter winner in basketball at Raceland.  As a senior her averaged 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists as he shot 50% from the field and 75% from the charity strip.  Tyler has earned all-area honors and all-district honors twice in basketball. 

“Tyler is a fine outstanding young man,” said Head Coach Jeff Hamilton.  “He is an exceptional student that carries over to the basketball floor.  He is very long and athletic with a sweet stroke.”

Boyles also lettered four times in football and baseball, and twice in track at Raceland.  He earned all-area and all-district honors in football twice.

Boyles will be studying Sports Management while attending Shawnee State University.
 

WESTERN BROWN'S MORGAN SIGNS WITH SSU
Tyler Morgan has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State University. 

The standout from Western Brown is the only player in school history to score more than 1,000 points and pull down 750 rebounds. As a senior Tyler was unanimously selected Southern Buckeye Player of the Year after averaging over 23 points and 16 rebounds a game and guiding the Broncos to a record of 18-2. Tyler earned all-league honors three times, named to the Brown County All-Star Team twice, and was selected to play in the East-West All-Star game. 

“We are extremely pleased to add Tyler Morgan to our basketball family,” said Head Coach Jeff Hamilton.  “We expect Tyler to have an immediate impact; physically he is ready to compete at this level.  He has a tremendous knack for the basketball and great ability to score.  He can play with the back to the basket or facing up, equally effectively.  His versatility will allow him to play a variety of positions.”

Morgan will be studying Computer Engineering while at Shawnee State.

Morgan joins Mark Bryant, Tom Berlekamp, and Zack Metz in what is shaping up to be an outstanding recruiting class for the Bears.  

 

BATH COUNTY STANDOUT ZAK METZ SIGNS WITH SSU
Bath County’s standout player Zak Metz has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State University.  He is the third member of the Bears 2009-2010 recruiting class.

Metz is Bath County’s 2nd all-time leading scorer as he has tallied over 2,200 points in his career.  During his senior year he helped lead his team to back-to-back district titles and an overall record of 20-7 as he averaged over 23 points and 7 rebounds a game.  Metz shot an astounding 47% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc.  He was named District MVP, an Adidas All-star, and to the All-Region Team. 

Metz decision to stay close to home and focus on basketball made Shawnee State an excellent fit for him.  “We are extremely pleased to be adding Zak to our basketball family!” said Bears’ Head Coach Jeff Hamilton.  “He had an outstanding career at Bath County High School and we look forward to him bring his scoring mentality to SSU.  His strength and toughness in addition to the ability to put the ball in the basket will give him a great chance to compete at this level immediately."

Metz also excelled at football at Bath County and participated in swimming. In football he earned Defensive and Offensive Eastern Kentucky Conference Player of the Year honors, set a school record for career tackles with 407, as well as earning 1st Team All-Eastern Kentucky Conference and All-District honors twice.  He also has accumulated 2,578 career rushing yards and 1,527 passing yards. He also participated in swimming at Bath County High School.

 

BEARS SIGN HOLY NAME STAR TOM BERLEKAMP
Holy Name’s Tom Berlekamp has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State University. He is the second member of the Bears 2009-2010 recruiting class.

Berlekamp averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists per game at Holy Name as a senior.  He was named Conference MVP and twice earned Honorable Mention All-Ohio, 2nd Team All-District, and 1st Team All-Conference honors.

“I had a good feeling the first time I visited Shawnee State,” said Berlekamp.  “I enjoyed the atmosphere and also the people I met. I knew right away that Shawnee State would fit me well.”

“We are very excited to add Tom to our program,” said Bears’ Head Coach Jeff Hamilton.  “He is a very athletic wing who is versatile enough to play multiple positions.  His combination of size and athleticism will enable him to make an immediate impact. I am most pleased with Tom’s character and work habits which will enable him to excel at this level!”

MILFORD'S MARK BRYANT HAS SIGNED A LETTER OF INTENT
MARCH 9, 2009

Milford’s Mark Bryant has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State University. He is the first member of the Bears’ 2009-2010 recruiting class.

 

Bryant is a three-year letter winner in basketball at Milford High School. Bryant averaged over 18 points and 10 rebounds per game his senior season. He is a two-time 1st Team all-conference selection, as well as earning honorable mention all-region and honorable all-city. 

 

“We are exceptionally happy to add Mark to the Bear family,” said SSU Head Coach Jeff Hamilton. “He is an extremely versatile big man who played in the post for Coach Cambron at Milford. He has worked tremendously hard to improve every year and will move into his nature position as a forward at SSU.”

 

“The players and coaches made me feel comfortable and I knew SSU was the right fit for me,” said Bryant.  “I hope to come in and help the team in any way I can while maturing as a player.”

 

“Our coaching staff and players were very impressed with Mark during his visit.  We are very fortunate to add such a quality young person to our basketball program.  I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Mark as he begins working with our returning talent,” said Hamilton.
