February 20 vs. Cedarville

Shawnee State men's team kept it close, but NAIA No. 16 ranked Cedarville pulled away in the final minutes to win 74-60.  Shawnee State led much of the first half, but Cedarville came back and took a 23-22 lead with 4:30 remaining.  Shawnee State tied the game at 25 all with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter on a 3-pointer by sophomore Ian Nixson.  Cedarville then went up by three, on a foul shot by Brandong Sok and a jumper by Adam Riehle.  SSU's Tyler Morgan cut the lead to one on a lay-up with under a minute remaining.  CU's Chris Beals made 1-of-2 from the line to stretch the Yellow Jackets halftime lead to 29-27.  Morgan opened the second half with a jumper to knot the game, but Cedarville answered and went on a 8-2 run.  The two teams battled back-and-forth and the Bears regain a 50-49 lead on two free throws by freshman Tyler Morgan.  Cedarville's Sok answered back with a 3-pointer and a jumper by Ricardo Alliman.  Morgan made another lay-up to cut the lead to one again, but that was the closest Shawnee State would get.  Cedarville outscored the Bears 18-5 in the finals seven minutes to tally the final score. Shawnee State was led by Nixson and Morgan who each tallied 21 points in the game.  Morgan also tallied a team-high eight rebounds. Matt Harner led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points, while Austin Foote finished with 16.  Alliman tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Derrick Hannon and Beals each finished with 10 for the Yellow Jackets.  Both teams shot evenly in the game.  The Bears shot 43% (22-for-51) from the floor, while the Yellow Jackets shot 42% (24-for-52).  Shawnee State was out shot from beyond the arc, as the Yellow Jackets made 7-of-20 attempts for 35% and the Bears made 2-of-13 attempts for 15%.  At the line, Shawnee State converted on 14-of-20 attempts for 70%.  Cedarville made 19-of-23 attempts for 83%. February 18 @ Mount Vernon

Shawnee State couldn't get rolling, as Mount Vernon's Robbie Taylor lead the Cougar charge and put the Cougars up 20-5 in the first five minutes of the game.  The Bears battled back and cut the lead to six with under a minute to go, but MVNU's Brandon Short hit two free throws to extend the lead back to eight at the half.  Both teams battled back-and-forth for the first nine minutes of the second half, then Mount Vernon went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 16.  Shawnee State could not cut the lead any closer than 13 as the Bears fell 86-71 to Mount Vernon.  Shawnee State was led by junior Keelyn Franklin and freshman Mark Bryant, who each tallied 17 points for the Bears.  Bryant also pulled down a team high seven rebounds in the game.  Freshman Tyler Morgan was the only other Bear in double figures with 15 points. Mount Vernon was led by Robbie Taylor's 24 point performance.  Bryance Sanborn added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.  Shawnee State was out shot 55% (29-for-53) to 43% (26-for-60) in the game.  The Cougars shot 64% from beyond the arc, draining seven 3-pointers.  The Bears struggled from beyond the arc, making only one 3-pointer and shooting 11%.  At the line, the Bears converted 18-of-28 attempts for 64%, compared to Mount Vernon which made 21-of-23 attempts for 91%.  [Box Score]

 
February 16 @ Wilberforce

Down 57-56 in a back-and-forth battle, Shawnee State's freshman Tyler Morgan came up with a big steal and lay-up to put the Bears up, as the Bears would not trail the rest of the game.  The Bears clinched the win as they hit 5-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes to pull out the AMC win on the road as they would go onto to defeat Wilberforce 62-55 Wilberforce's Lendyn Davis hit three consecutive 3-pointers in a row to give Wilberforce the 25-17 lead, the largest lead for either team in the game, with 6:46 remaining in the first half.  The Bears finished the half on 16-9 run to take the 34-33 advantage at the half.  The second half was a back-and-forth battle as there was six lead changes, before Morgan came up with the steal to give the Bears the lead again and go on to win the contest.  Morgan lead all scorers with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Freshman Mark Bryant added 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists for the Bears.  Sophomore Ian Nixson added eight points, five assists, and two steals in the game.  Christopher Olafioye led Wilberforce with 15 pints, while Davis added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.  Darius Foster contributed 11 points in the loss for Wilberforce. Shawnee State out shot Wilberforce 39% (20-for-51) to 33% (20-for-60) in the game.  The Bears shot 33% from beyond the arc, while the Bulldogs shot 28%.  From the line the Bears went 20-for-28 attempts for 71%, while Wilberforce hit 10-for-12 attempts for 83%. February 13 vs. Walsh

Shawnee State made it close for awhile, but the NAIA No. 1 ranked Walsh Cavaliers were too much for the young squad, as the Bears went on to fall 80-63 on Saturday afternoon.  The Walsh Cavaliers led the entire game, but the Bears stuck around as they trailed 42-33 at the half.  The Bears came out and cut the lead to nine with 15:49 remaining in the game, but that was as close as they Bears would get.  The Cavaliers were up by 15 points within 10 minutes to play and the Bears cut the lead to 10 with 6:41 remaining, but the Cavaliers finished the game 11-4 run to tally the final score.  Freshman Tyler Morgan finished just two point shy of his career high as he tallied 22 points to lead the Bears.  Morgan also had six rebounds and three assists in the game.  Freshman Mark Bryant added 12 points and six rebounds for the Bears. The Cavaliers were lead by Ricky Jackson who tallied 33 points.  Brandon Speck hit five 3-pointers in the game for 15 points, while Kyelce Cescato and Jeremy Shardo added 11 and 10 points respectively.  The Bears shot 46% (24-for-52) from the field in the game.  Walsh shot well from the floor as they made 30-of-54 attempts for 56%.  From beyond the arc, the Bears shot 29%, compared to Walsh who shot 43%.  At the line the Bears converted on 11-of-17 attempts for 65%.  The Cavaliers went 14-for-18 for 78%. February 11 @ Cedarville

Shawnee State fell 80-57 to a tough NAIA No. 18 ranked Cedarville veteran squad on Thursday evening.  After being down 38-25 at the half, the Bears cut the lead to seven three minutes into the second half.  Cedarville shot 60% from the field in the second half and outscored the Bears 40-24 to win their eighth consecutive AMC match-up.  Three freshman were the Bears only scorers to score in double-figures.  Mark Bryant tallied his fourth double-double in the last five games.  He scored 19 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.  Tyler Morgan added 17 points and five rebounds, while Tyler Boyles added 12 points and four rebounds.  Sophomore Ian Nixson added eight rebounds for the Bears.  Cedarville was lead by Chris Beals who tallied 17 points in the game.  Ricardo Alliman scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Matt Harner added 10 points.  Cedarville out shot the Bears 50% to 34% in the game.  Shawnee State shot a dismal 17% from beyond the arc as they hit 3-of-18 attempts.  The Yellow Jackets made 8-of-20 attempts for 40%.  Neither team shot well from the charity strip, as Shawnee State converted 10-of-19 attempts for 53%, while Cedarville made 6-of-12 shots for 50%.  [Box Score]

 
February 6 vs. Point Park

Shawnee State snapped their losing streak as they defeated Point Park 84-68.  The Bears only never trailed 2-0 in the game and then the Bears jumped out to an early 15-6 lead.  Shawnee State out shot the Pioneers in the first half 41% to 28% and lead 29-19 at the half.  The Bears extended their lead to as many 20 in the second half.  Both teams shot evenly with each other in the second half, the difference was that Shawnee State went to the free throw line 28 times, draining 24 of their attempts.  Point Park only went to the line 18 times, making 12 of their attempts. Freshmen Tyler Morgan and Mark Bryant had big games for the Bears.  Morgan led the Bears as he tallied a career high 24 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Bryant tallied his third double double in four games as he scored 14 points and pulled down a game high 15 rebounds.  Sophomore Ian Nixson added 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Junior Keelyn Franklin added nine points and five rebounds, while freshman Zak Metz added nine points. Point Park was led by T.J. Heatherington's 19 point, five rebound, five assists performance, while Gerald Warrick and Franco Sabastiani added 18 and 11 points for the Pioneers.  Shawnee State shot 42% (27-for-65) in the game, while Point Park shot 37% (25-for-68).  From beyond the arc the Bears made 5-of-23 attempts for 21%, while the Pioneers made 6-of-16 attempts for 28%.  At the line, the Bears went 25-for-30 for 83%, while the Pioneers went 12-for-21 fro 57%.  [Box Score]

 
February 2 @ Northwestern Ohio

Shawnee State lost 50-58 on Tuesday night at the University of Northwestern Ohio as the Bears drop their sixth straight loss.  The Bears lead by seven points with 6:30 to go in the game, but three consecutive misses by the Bears, paired with UNOH rattling off seven straight points, knotted the game at 44 with 4:41 remaining.  The two teams exchanged some free throws, but Josh Vorst hit a jumper and drew the foul to give the Racers the three point advantage.  Freshman Tyler Morgan answered with a bucket of his own to cut the lead to one, but the Racers scored again on a jumper by Dustin Guthrie.  SSU's freshman Mark Bryant drained two free throws to pull the game within one again, but the Racers went on and hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 1:25 to seal the game.  Junior Keelyn Franklin lead the Bears with 15 points.  He also tallied four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block in the game.  Morgan tallied his sixth double-double of the season as he scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Bryant added 10 rebounds for the Bears.  Kyle Gillette led the Racers with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Vorst and Guthrie added 14 and 10 points for the Racers. Shawnee State shot 29% (17-for-59) in the game, while UNOH shot 36% (21-for-58).  The Bears made 4-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc for 27%.  The Racers hit 4-of-14 attempts for 29%.  At the line, the Bears connected on 12-of-18 attempts for 67%, while the Racers went 12-for-19 in the game for 63%. January 30 @ Roberts Wesleyan

Shawnee State was defeated by Roberts Wesleyan 83-72 on Saturday afternoon.  Shawnee State kept it close in the first half as they only trailed 36-34 at the break.  However, the Raiders started the second half on a 9-2 run and lead by as many as 14 as they went on to win 83-72.  Mark Bryant led the Bears as he had a career night.  The freshman tallied 21 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the game.  Freshman Tyler Morgan added 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Junior Keelyn Franklin and freshman Zac Metz added 13 and 11 points  respectively.   Roberts Wesleyan was led by Dan Foley, who tallied 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and a block. Mitchell Fraser had 15 points and six assists, while Nick Bozzelli and Alif Bland added 12 and 10 points for the Raiders.  Shawnee State only shot 27% from the floor as they hit 19-of-68 attempts.  The Raiders shot 53% from the field as they hit 29-of-54 attempts.  From beyond the arc the Bears made 6-of-19 for 32%, while Roberts Wesleyan made 12-of-23 attempts for 52%.  At the line Shawnee State went 28-for-34 for 82%.  Roberts Wesleyan connected on 13-of-22 attempts for 59%. January 29 @ Daemen
The Shawnee State Bears were defeated by Daemen College 81-74 on Friday evening.  The Bears fall to 6-15 on the season and 3-5 in the AMC.  Daemen improves to 13-9, 5-4 AMC.  The Bears began the game with a 6-0 run and went into the half down by only two (35-33).  Shawnee State was able to tie the score twice, but the Wildcats pulled away early in the second half and the Bears were unable to catch up.  Freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears, tallying a double-double on the night with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Ian Nixon added 16 points, 8 boards and three assists.  Mark Bryant tallied a double-double as well, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler Boyles added 14 points. For the Wildcats, Devon Dawson led all scorers with 28 points.  He also pulled down 16 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, had five steals and 8 assists.  MJ Oridami added 12 points for Daemen.Shawnee state shot 46% (29-63) from the floor, compared to Daemen's 43% (29-67).  The Bears went 6-13 from beyond the arc for 46% against the Wildcat's 27% (5-18).  At the line, the Bears shot 55% (10-18), while Daemen made 18-of-27 attempts for 66%. January 23 vs. Malone
Shawnee State fell in a close one by a score of 65-58 in the final game of the AMC doubleheader.  The first half was a back and forth battle by the two teams, but Malone got the upper hand as Eric Coblentz hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Pioneers the 30-29 edge at the break.  Shawnee State didn't regain the lead in the second half and trailed by as many as 11 with just over 12 minutes to go.  The Bears battled back and cut the lead to a point on a 3-point play by junior Keelyn Franklin.  Malone answered with a 3-point play of their own and sealed the win with a foul shot by Ebiowei Porbeni and a basketball by Nick Watts to tally the final margin.  Franklin led the Bears with 16 points in the game.  Freshmen Tyler Morgan and Tyler Boyles each added eight points for the Bears.  Morgan added a team high 10 rebounds.  Malone was led by Coblentz's 17 point performance.  Jock Rottman added 12 points, while Porbeni and Nick Watts added 11 points for the Pioneers. Shawnee State shot 37% from the field as they 24-of-64 attempts.  The Pioneers made 25-of-53 attempts for 47%.    The Bears shot 35% (5-for-14) from beyond the arc, while Malone shot 44% (7-for-16).  At the line Shawnee State made 5-of-8 attempts for 63%.  The Pioneers converted 8-of-11 attempts for 72%.

January 15 @ Walsh
The Shawnee State men's basketball team fell to NAIA Division II No. 2 ranked Walsh 118-62 in Friday night's American Mideast Conference game.  SSU falls to 6-13 overall, and 3-3 in the AMC.  Walsh improves to 16-1 on the season and 6-0 AMC.  Freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears in scoring with 15 points and added 3 assists.  Keelyn Franklin added 12 points, while Tyler Boyles came from the bench to add 10 points and a blocked shot.  Walsh saw six players reach double figure scoring.  Ricky Jackson led all scorers with 33 points.  L.J. Sutton and Lamar Skeeter added 12 and 11 points respectively, while Skeeter dishing out 9 assists.  From the bench, Brandon Speck pitched in with 15 points, while Eric Schiele and Isaac Knight had 14 and 10 points respectively.  Shawnee State shot 35% from the floor in the loss, compared to Walsh's 61% field goal shooting.  From beyond the arc, the Bears shot 6-17 for 35%, while Walsh connected on 12 of 25 attempts for 48%.  At the line, Shawnee State hit 8 of 16 shots for 50% and Walsh went 18-23 for 78%. January 14 @ Notre Dame

Shawnee State committed 24 fouls in the game and Notre Dame hit 23 free throws as the Bears fell 73-61 to the Falcons. Notre Dame started strong in the game and took a 23-8 lead with 11 remaining in the first half.  Shawnee State fought back to cut the lead to 34-31 at the half.  At the start of the second half the Bears cut the lead to one, but the Falcons took off and captured their largest lead of the game of 16 with just over five minutes remaining in the game. The Falcons sealed the win as they made all six free throws in the final three minutes of the game. Junior Keelyn Franklin and sophomore Ian Nixson led the Bears with 16 points in the game.  Nixson added four assists for the Bears.  Freshmen Tyler Morgan and Zak Metz added nine apiece, while Morgan also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.  Eric Dummermuth led all scorers as he tallied a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds.  Al Miller had 16 points and five assists in the game, while Nick McCartney added 10 points and five steals for the Falcons.  Shawnee State shot 37% from the floor as they hit 21-of-57 attempts.  The Falcons made 23-of-51 attempts for 45%.  From beyond the arc the Bears connected on 11 3-pointers, while the Falcons hit only four 3-pointers in the game.  The Falcons out shot the Bears as they charity strip as they went 23-for-33 for 70%.  The Bears only shot 16 attempts, making only eight of them for 50%.  [Box Score]
 

January 12 vs. Wilberforce

Shawnee State showed poise and confidence against an athletic Wilberforce team as the Bears defeated the Bulldogs 77-69.  Shawnee State only trailed 2-0 in the game. The Bears then began to pull away and led by as many as 18 in the first half before ending the first half up 38-24.  The Bears continued to control the game in the second half.  Wilberforce cut the lead to eight with 2:40 left in the game but that is as close as the Bulldogs could get as they fell by the final margin.  Nine Shawnee State players saw action and all nine players scored for the Bears.  Freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears with 19 points, six rebounds, and a career-high five steals.  Junior Keelyn Franklin had 14 points in the game, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, including four 3-pointers.  Freshman Tyler Boyles added 11 points, draining three 3-pointers in the game.  Freshman Mark Bryant added eight points and a team high 10 rebounds for the Bears.  Sophomore Ian Nixson added nine points and dished out six assists in the game.  Wilberforce was led by Darius Foster's 20 point effort.  Lendyn Davis had 19 points in the game, while Tyaun Wallace added 11 points respectively.  Shawnee State outshot the Bulldogs 45% to 38% in the game.  The Bears connected on 28-of-62 shots in the game, while Wilberforce made 24-of-63 attempts.  From beyond the arc the Bears went 9-for-18, while the Bulldogs made 7-of-20 shots.  The Bears converted 12 of their 17 attempts at the line for 71%.  Wilberforce made 14-of-16 attemtps for 88%.  [Box Score]
 
January 5 vs. Houghton
Shawnee State defeated Houghton 63-53 to pick up another American Mideast Conference win.  Shawnee State gave up a 9-8 lead early, but the Bears regained the lead and never trailed the remainder of the game.  Shawnee State lead at the break 28-24 and was up by as many as 11 in the second half.  The Highlanders got as close as four with 3:15 remaining in the game, but back-to-back 3-pointers by junior Keeyln Franklin and freshman Tyler Boyles sealed the victory for the Bears. Shawnee State had four players in double figures.  Franklin and junior Matt Skaggs led all scorers with 13 points.  Skaggs went 6-for-6 from the field, pulled down five boards and had two blocks in the game.  Franklin also pulled down seven rebounds, had four assists, and two steals in the game.  Sophomore Ian Nixson had 12 points and three assists, while freshman Tyler Morgan added 11 points and five rebounds.  Houghton's Devin Paige and Ryan Shay each tallied 11 points in the game.  Shawnee State shot 49% from the floor as they connected on 21-of 53 attempts.  The Highlanders hit 20-of-53 attempts from the floor for 38%.  The Bears were 7-for-22 in 3-pointers for 32%, while Houghton went 10-for-19 for 53%.  From the charity strip the Bears made 14-of-23 attempts for 61%, while Houghton connected of 3-of-10 attempts.  [Box Score]
 
December 29 vs. Huntington
After falling to NCAA Division I Detroit last night, the Bears bounced back as they knocked off NAIA Division II #12 ranked Huntington University to win their fourth game of the season.  It was a back and forth battle and the Bears were within one point with seven minutes to go in the first half, but Huntington finished the half on a 19-12 run to tally a 44-36 halftime lead.  The Bears battled back and took their second lead of the game on a 3-pointer by sophomore Ian Nixson with 13:57 left in the second half.  The Bears stretched their lead to as much 13 but Huntington fought back and cut the lead to four with under a minute remaining in regulation.  The Bears hit six free throws in the final minute and freshman Tyler Morgan pulled down two key rebounds to secure the win for the Bears. The Bears had a balanced offense as eight Bears found themselves in the scoring column, five tallying double figures.  Nixson led the Bears with 17 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor, and hitting some key baskets in the second half.  Freshman Mark Bryant came off the bench to scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal.  Junior Keelyn Franklin added 15 points for the Bears.  Morgan tallied his fifth double-double of the season as he scored 13 points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds.  Freshman Tyler Boyles added 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocks for the Bears.  Kellen Zawadzki led five Foresters in double figures as he tallied a game high 21 points, including five 3-pointers.  Tyler Shively had 15 points, while Bobby Jolliff added 14 points.  Caleb Kennedy and Luke Smith added 12 points and 11 points respectively.  Both teams shot evenly from the floor as Shawnee State made 29-of-58 attempts for 50%, while Huntington went 30-for-62 for 48%.  From beyond the arc the Bears made 8-of-12 3-pointers for 67%. December 28 @ Detroit
NCAA Division I Detroit was too much for the Shawnee State men's team, as the Bears fell 82-53 to the Titans.  Detroit opened the game on a 16-0 run.  Shawnee State fought back to be down 36-30 at the break.  The Titans came out strong and outscored the Bears 46-23 in the second half to tally the final score.  Both teams committed over 24 turnovers in the game, but the difference in the game was the 28% the Bears shot from the floor and the 17 blocks the Titans had, tying the school record.  Freshman Mark Bryant came off the bench to lead the Bears as he was the only Bear in double-figures with 10 points.  Freshmen Tyler Morgan and Tyler Boyles each added eights points.  Morgan tallied a team-high six rebounds.  Detroit had three players in doubles figures.  Xavier Keeling and Eli Holman led all scorers with 13 points.  Holman also tallied 15 rebounds, six blocks, and three steals, while Keeling added seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals.  Chase Simon added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Titans. December 18 vs. Campbellsville @ Warsaw, KY
Shawnee State lost its second straight game as they fell to Campbellsville University 75-68.  The Bears scored only 23 first half points, but was only outscored 26-25 in the second half to tally the final margin.  Shawnee State had three players in double figures.  Sophomore Ian Nixson led the Bears with 16 points, as he went 6-for-10 from the floor, hitting two 3-pointers.  Junior Keelyn Franklin tallied 13 points, six assists, and two steals in the game.  Freshman Zak Meta added 11 points, nailing three 3-pointers.  Freshman Tyler Morgan added eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds in the game.  Shawnee State shot 43% from the field as they connected on 27-of-63 attempts.  Campbellsville's made 20-of-50 attempts for 40% from the floor.  From beyond the arc, the Bears hit 8-of-21 attempts for 38%, while Campbellsville hit 8-of-23 attempts for 35%.  At the line the Bears made 6-of-7 for 86%.  Campbellsville made 27-of-37 attempts for 73%.  [Box Score]
 
December 15 @ Liberty
Shawnee State took on Division I Liberty University at the Vines Center in Lynchburg, VA. The Bears played very competitively in the first half before Liberty pulled away winning 70-45. During the first half of the game with an even score of 17-17, Shawnee State played tough until Liberty went on a 5-0 run to eventually take a 34-23 half time lead. December 12 @ University of Rio Grande     
Shawnee State defeated Rio Grande Saturday at the Newt Oliver Coaches Classic by a score of 72-70, giving them their second win over the RedStorms this season. The Bears began the game with an 11-0 run over Rio Grande and were up by as much as 14 points until Rio battled back to within 6 going into halftime.  Shawnee led the entire second half, but the RedStorm men kept battling and were down by only 2 (68-70) with only 1:26 left in the game, and tied the score at 70 with just 11 seconds remaining.  Keelyn Franklin drove the lane and scored the game winning bucket (also drawing a foul) with 0.7 seconds left on the clock.  His purposely missed free throw shot gave Rio no time to retaliate.  Keelyn Franklin led all scorers on the night with 21 points.  Ian Nixon and Mark Bryant each had 12 points.  Tyler Morgan pitched in with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while Tyler Boyles came off the bench and added 10 points.For Rio Grande, Doug Campbell and Bud Teer led with 17 points apiece.  Teer also pulled down and impressive 17 boards.  P.J. December 5 vs. University of Northwestern Ohio

Shawnee State men's basketball had a series of missed opportunities at the end of the game they allowed the Bears to fall short to the University of Northwestern Ohio 68-60 on Saturday afternoon.  The University of Northwestern led by as many as eight in the first half but the Bears finished the first half on a 12-4 run to take a 37-34 lead at the break.  The Bears controlled the first nine minutes of action in the second.  The Racers battled back and tied the game at 46 all, on a offense rebound by Brandon Miller and a 3-pointer by Isaac Bowers.  Bowers hit another 3-pointer on the Racers next possession to give them their first lead of the second half.  University of Northwestern Ohio then went on a 10-2 run as they extended their lead to the largest of the game at nine.  The Bears pulled within three with just over two minutes to go in the game, but didn't capitalize on their opportunities.  Down 60-63, the Bears missed four consecutive foul shots.  The Racers finished the game as they drained 5-of-6 attempts at the line and the Bears went cold as they went 0-for-3 at the field to fall to the Racers 68-60.  Shawnee State had three players in double-figures.  Freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears with his fourth double-double of the season as the scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. December 1 vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene
Shawnee State Men's basketball team battled for a win in their first American Mideast Conference match up, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene University by a score of 75-71.The Bears played catch-up after a slow start, but worked their way to a 43-36 lead at half.  Mount Vernon fought back hard in the second half and regained the lead for a short time.  A three-pointer by Freshman Tyler Boyles, followed by a lay-up and free throw from junior Keelyn Franklin with 2 minutes remaining in the game, gave SSU some much needed momentum, and the lead.  Up by only one point with 28 seconds left, sophomore guard Ian Nixon forced a Mount Vernon turnover, grabbed the steal, and completed a fast-break lay-up to seal the deal.  Shawnee State had four players in double-figures.  Junior Keelyn Franklin led the way with 22 points,  freshman Tyler Morgan,  and sophomore Ian Nixon had 14 points each. From the bench, freshman Tyler Boyles contributed 10 points, adding 3 assists and 3 steals.  Mount Vernon was led by Austin Kaiser with 18 points.   Bryce Sanborn finished with 15 points and 12 boards, while Travis Brown added 11 points on the night.From the field, Shawnee State made 27-of-52 attempts for 52%, while Mount Vernon made 25-of-51 attempts for 49%.  Shawnee State shot 43% from beyond the arc connecting on 10-of-23 attempts.  Mount Vernon made 6-of-12 attempts for 50%.  From the line the Bears were 11-for-19 for 58%. November 28 vs. Calumet College @ Ohio Dominican Tournament
The Shawnee State men's basketball team came up short by two points in overtime to Calumet College 76-78 on Saturday.  Calumet led the entire first half but the Bears were able to stay close to go into the half 32-29.  Shawnee State took their first lead of the game with 16:11 left in the second half on the lay up by Tyler Morgan.  With just under 3 minutes left in regulation Tim Russell made two lay ups to go up 71-66.  Calumut fought back with the lay up by Wilfredo Escobar and then the 3 pointer by Keith Dean to tie the game and send it into overtime. Keith Dean hit a 3 ball and then capitalized off the turnover by Ian Nixson with a lay up.  Tyler Boyles answered with a lay up making it 76-78 before time ran out.  Shawnee State had four players in double digits.  Freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears with 23 points.  Freshman Tyler Boyles, sophomore Tim Russell, and junior Keelyn Franklin each added 13, 12, and 11 points.  Morgan also led the Bears in rebounds with 12 followed by freshman Mark Bryant with 8 and Russell with 6 rebounds.  Calumet had three plays in double digits with Keith Dean leading all scores with 30 points.  Wilfredo Escobar and Fares Saqf-Alhait each added 20 and 18 points.  Eric Spaulding led Calumet with 8 rebounds.   From the field, Shawnee State made 27-of-59 attempts for 46%, while Calumet made 25-of-64 attempts for 39%.  Shawnee State shot 17% from beyond the arc as they made only 3-of-18 attempts.  Dearborn made 12-of-36 attempts for 33%.  From the line the Bears went 19-for-34 for 56%. November 27 vs. University of Michigan Dearborn @ Ohio Dominican Tournament
The Shawnee State men's basketball team fell to the University of Michigan Dearborn 54-67 on Friday evening.  Shawnee State falls to 1-6 on the season.  The University of Michigan Dearborn improves to 2-6. It had been a back and forth battle the entire first half between Shawnee State and the University of Michigan Dearborn tying the game at 19-19.  With 14:07 remaining in the second half, Dearborn's Le'ante Duren stole the ball off of Shawnee State's Tyler Boyles and finished with a lay-up to go on a 15-6 run making it 25-34.  From there Dearborn did not look back.  Dearborn lead as much as 19 points and kept the Bears from coming within 11 points the rest of the contest. Shawnee State had three players in double-figures.  Junior Keelyn Franklin, sophomore Matt Skaggs, and freshmen Tyler Morgan led the Bears with 10 points a piece.  Skaggs, who went 5-8 from the field added a career high nine rebounds on the night.  Freshman Mark Bryant also added nine rebounds for the Bears. Dearborn had four players in double-figures.  Ronald Wilson led with 18 points while Nicholas Simpson, Le'ante Duren, and Matt Ponik added 13, 12, and 10 points.  Wilson and Duren each added nine rebounds. November 24 vs. Campbellsville
Shawnee State fell to Campbellsville University 62-58 on Tuesday evening. Campbellsville lead most of the game but Shawnee State stayed within striking distance of the Tigers.  Shawnee State took their first lead three minutes into the second half on free-throw by freshman Tyler Morgan.  Campbellsville regained the lead on a Nestor Colmenares dunk, three minutes later.  Freshman Tyler Boyles then gave the Bears their only other lead of the game on lay-up with 10:24 to go in the game.  Campbellsville then rolled off 14-2 run to give the Tigers their largest lead of the game and put the Bears out of reach.  Shawnee State had two players in double-figures.  Freshmen Tyler Boyles and Tyler Morgan led the Bears with 18 and 17 points, as they both made 7-of-10 shots from the floor.  Morgan added six rebounds and two blocks.  Freshman Mark Bryant added nine rebounds for the Bears.  Campbellsville had three players in double-figures.  Shawn Savage led the Tigers with 11 points, while Nestor Colmenares and Joe Robinson each added 10.  From the field, Shawnee State made 22-of- 59 attempts for 37%, while Campbellsville made 24-of-48 attempts for 50%.  Shawnee State shot a dismal 17% from beyond the arc as they made only 4-of-24 attempts.  The Tigers made 7-of-18 attempts for 39%.  From the line the Bears went 10-for-16 for 63%. November 21 @ UC Clermont
Shawnee State fell to UC Clermont 80-72.  Junior Keelyn Franklin and freshman Tyler Morgan led the Bears as they each tallied 15 points in the game.  Morgan added seven rebounds and three steals, while Franklin added four assists and four steals. Sophomore Matt Skaggs added 12 points and six rebounds for the Bears.  Shawnee State shot 44% from the field and 28% from beyond the arc.  From the charity strip the Bears made 9-of-17 attempts for 53%. November 17 vs. Rio Grande
In a exciting back-for-forth battle in the packed Waller Gymnasium the Shawnee State men's basketball team pulled away in the final minutes to beat rival University of Rio Grande 87-77 Tuesday evening.  Rio Grande got up by as many as 10 in the first half, but the Bears went on 11-5 to end the first half to cut the lead to four at the break.  Rio Grande led the most of the second half until sophomore Ian Nixson drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 73-73.  Freshman Tom Berlekamp rattled in another three-pointer on the next possession to give the Bears their first lead of the second half.  Rio Grande's Meau Jones knocked down two free throws to pull the RedStorm within one.  Freshman Mark Bryant made a lay-up, Nixson drained two free throws, and junior Keelyn Franklin drained a jumper to extend the Bears lead 82-75.  Rio's Bud Teer made two free throws of his own to tally Rio Grande's final score.  Shawnee State finished the game as they hit 6-of-8 attempts at the line to seal the victory.  Shawnee State had a balanced offense as five players reached double-figures.  Franklin led the Bears with a stellar performance and was named SSU's Dick Hyland Player of the Game as he scored 16 points, dished out 7 assists, pulled down five rebounds, tallied three steals, and had one block in the game.  Bryant came off the bench for the Bears to tally 16 points, three rebounds, and three steals.  Nixson had 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals in the game.  Freshmen Tyler Morgan and Berlekamp added 13 points and seven rebounds and 12 points and six rebounds, respectively.  The RedStorm's P.J. Rase led all scorers with 23 points and was named Rio's Dick Hyland Player of the Game.  Doug Campbell and Brad Cubbie each added 11 points.  Shawnee State out shot the RedStorm 53% to 40% from the field.  From beyond the arc the Bears connected on six three-pointers of 14 attempts for 43%, while Rio Grande drained 7-of-26 attempts for 27%.  At the line the Bears made 17-of-31 attempts for 55%.  Rio Grande hit 16-of-22 fro 73%.  [Box Score]
 
November 14 vs. Mountain State (Harry Weinbrecht Classic)
Shawnee State's physical play and zone defense held Mountain State University, which averages 108 points a game, to their lowest score of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Bears fell to NAIA Division I No. 2 ranked Mountain State University 82-60 on the second day of the Harry Weinbrecht Classic.  Shawnee State picked up an early 8-4 lead in the first half, but Mountain State's offensive depth combined with the Bears' offensive draught in the first half, gave the Cougars a 42-20 lead at the half.  The Bears came out in the second half strong and played an even battle, but couldn't overcome the first half deficit.  Shawnee State was lead by junior Keelyn Franklin's 14 points performance.  Franklin also added six rebounds, and three assist, and two steals in the game.  Sophomore Ian Nixson added 12 points and five rebounds for the Bears.  Tyler Morgan tallied his second double-double of the season as he scored 11 points and pulled down 11 boards to go along with three steals.  Mark Bryant came off the bench to tally nine points and pull down five rebounds.  The Bears struggle from the field as they shot 34% in the game compared to Mountain State who shot 45% in the game.  From beyond the arc the Bears mae only 4-of-19 attempts, while Mountain State connected on 10-for-29.  Shawnee State shot 55% from the charity strip as they went 12-for-22 in the game.  The Cougars made 18-of-22 attempts for 82%.  [Box Score]
 
November 13 vs. Cincinnati Christian College (Harry Weinbrecht Classic) Exhibition
Shawnee State men's basketball picked up their first victory of the season as they defeated Cincinnati Christian College 87-39 in the first night of the Harry Weinbrecht Classic.  After a slow first half and up 34-17 at the break, the Bears stepped it up in the second half to score 53 second half points. The Bears had a very balanced offense as 12 Shawnee State players scored.  Junior Keelyn Franklin led the Bears as he poured 21 points, tying a career-high, as he went 10-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-2 from beyond the arc.  Franklin also pulled down four rebounds and dished out four assists in the game.  Sophomore Matt Skaggs added 12 points, going 6-for-7 from the field, while pulling down seven rebounds.  Sophomore Ian Nixson scored 11 points in the game, dished out eight assists, pulled down four boards, and had two steals for the Bears. Cincinnati Christian was led by Alonzo Gill's 22 points performance.  Shawnee State shot 53% in the game as they went 38-for-72 from the floor.  From beyond the arc the Bears shot 36%.  The Bears only went to the line four times in the game, hitting three of the attempts.  [Box Score]
 
November 9 @ Pikeville
The Shawnee State men's basketball team had their chances Monday evening, but an experienced Pikeville team was too much for the young Bears' squad as Pikeville won the contest 66-57.  In the first half, Pikeville lead by as many as 12, but the Bears finished the second half on 11-4 run to cut Pikeville's lead to 28-23 at the break.  Pikeville stretched their lead to eight, but the Bears battled back to take a 42-41 lead with 10:48 to go in the game with a jumper by sophomore Ian Nixson.  This would be the last lead exchange in the game as Pikeville would outscore the Bears 25-15 in the final 10 minutes. Freshman Tyler Boyles came off the bench to lead the Bears with a team-high 15 points, while Nixson added 14 points and three steals.  Freshman Tyler Morgan tallied 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.  Junior Keelyn Franklin dished out a team-high four assists.  Pikeville was lead by junior Justin Hicks' 17 point performance, while senior Jonathan Clark added 16 points and seven rebounds.  [Box Score]
 
November 7 vs. UVA-Wise
The Shawnee State men's basketball team fell short to UVA-Wise as they lost 79-74 in double-overtime to open the season.  Junior Keelyn Franklin sank a jumper with 20 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime knotted at 58.  The Bears never trailed in the first overtime and had their chances to clinch the win, but shot a dismal 4-for-10 at the line to allow UVA-Wise to stay within striking distance.  UVA-Wise's Adam Hood hit two foul shots with 13 seconds to go to tie the game at 66.  Freshmen Tyler Morgan missed a shot with four seconds left and Mark Bryant followed with a jumper of his own, but never found the bottom of the net, sending the game into a second overtime. Freshman Tyler Boyles nailed a three-pointer to open the second overtime period, but UVA-Wise's Adam Hood answered with one of his own to tie the game.  The Bears then turned the ball over on two straight possession, allowing the Cavaliers to take a 73-69 lead. Shawnee State's sophomore Matt Skaggs was fouled and went to the line for the double bonus, where he went 1-for-2, pulling the Bears within three.  UVA's Kevin Perry then missed two foul shots of his own.  Sophomore Ian Nixson got the Bears within two as he made 1-of-2 at the line.  Hood then sank two foul shots to give the Cavaliers the four point lead.  Shawnee State missed a lay-up but an offensive rebound and put back by Boyles would put the Bears within two again.  Hood then sank two more shots from the charity strip to stretch the lead.  Shawnee State came up short as they missed a three-pointer and a UVA-Wise rebound and lay-up sealed the victory. Tyler Morgan led the Bears as he tallied a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds in his debut for the Bears.  Boyles came off the bench for the Bears to tally 14 points and three rebounds and two assists in his debut.  Keelyn Franklin and Ian Nixson each scored 13 points for the Bears.  Shawnee State shot 42% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc.
