February 20 vs. Notre Dame

Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team lost to Notre Dame College 72-60. Ian Nixson led the Bears with 12 points, three assists, and three rebounds.  Justin Patrick tallied 11 points and nine rebounds in his final game as a Bear. Patrick ends his career ranking 10th on the all-time roster with 1,097 career points.  Seniors Aaron Pennington and Adam Green each added six points in their final game. Karim McFarlane led Notre Dame with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Eric Dummermuth added 20 points and 12 rebounds. Shawnee State shot 33% in the game, while Notre Dame shot 44%.  From beyond the arc, the Bears shot only 22%.  Notre Dame shot 42% in three-pointers.  At the charity strip the Bears went 13-for-19 for 68% and Notre Dame shot 27-for-33 for 82%.

February 17 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State lost to Ohio Dominican 79-70 in a non-conference game. Justin Patrick led the Bears with 17 points and six rebounds.  Matt Skaggs came off the bench to give the Bears 12 points.  Aaron Pennington pulled down 10 rebounds to go with nine rebounds. ODU’s Bryan West led all scorers as he tallied a double-double with 35 points and 10 rebounds.  David Millaud added 14 points for the Panthers. Shawnee State shot 42% in the game, while ODU shot 48%.  From beyond the arc the Bears shot 36% and Ohio Dominican shot 38%.  From the line the Bears made 11-for-15 for 73%, while Ohio Dominican made 9-for-18 attempts for 50%. February 14 @ Roberts Wesleyan

Shawnee State lost in overtime 79-74 to Roberts Wesleyan College. Justin Patrick led all scorers with a career-high 33 points and 12 rebounds. Patrick also had two blocks and two assists. Ian Nixson had 16 points, three assists and two steals for the Bears and Keeylan Franklin added 10 points. Mark Saladzius led RWC with 20 points. Jemel Williams and Bryan Williams added 14 points and 12 points respectively.  Shawnee State shot 45% from the field and RWC shot 56%. The Bears shot 32% in three-pointers, while Roberts Wesleyan shot 33%. At the charity strip the Bears went 12-for-17 for 71% and RWC went 117-for-28 for 61%. [Box Score]

 
February 13 @ Daemen

The Bears lost 71-61 to Daemen College. Keelyn Franklin led the Bears with 21 points and three steals.  Timothy Russell contributed 18 points and seven rebounds in the game, while Justin Patrick added 11 points and eight rebounds. Ajay Rutledge led Daemen with 28 points and 15 rebounds. DJ Johnson added 11 points. Shawnee State shot 39% (24-for-61) in the game, while Daemen shot 43% (23-for-53). February 7 @ Malone

Shawnee State lost to Malone 73-56. Senior Justin Patrick was Shawnee State's only player to reach double figures as he tallied 16 points in the game to go along with seven rebounds. Malone was led by Ted Lawver who scored 19 points. Jeremy Duerr had 15 points, while Jock Rottman added 14 points for the Pioneers. Shawnee State shot only 32% in the game, compared to Malone's 52%. From beyond the arc the Bears only shot 23% (3-for-11), while Malone shot 36% (5-for-14).  At the line the Bears went 23-for-31 for 74%, while Malone went 14-for-17 for 82%. [Box Score]

 
February 5 @ Rio Grande

It took the Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team two overtimes to defeat rival University of Rio Grande 87-83 Senior Justin Patrick, who was only 18 points shy of 1,000 before the game, had a huge night as he lead the Bears with a career-high 27 points on 11-15 shooting. Patrick broke the 1,000 margin with a drive to the basketball at the 7:23 mark of the 2nd half which gave the Bears a five point lead over the Redmen.  Patrick also tallied five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks in 46 minutes of play. Sophomore Keelyn Franklin added 15 points in the contest, including a made three-pointer with 54 seconds left in the 2nd overtime to give the Bears an 85-84 lead. Sophomore Jason Overbeck tallied 13 points, while senior Aaron Pennington recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Timothy Russell contributed 11 points in the game for the Bears. Brett Beucler led the Redmen with 23 points, while Brandon Ivery tallied a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.  Aaron Drakeford had 13 points and Wendell Bates added 11 points. Shawnee State shot 57% (33-for-58) from the field, while Rio Grande shot 39% (29-for-70). The Bears made 6 three-pointers out of 13 attempts from beyond the arc for 46%, while the Redmen made five out of 17 attempts for 29%.  At the line Shawnee State went 15-for-20 in the game including going 6-for-8 in overtimes to clinch the game.  Rio Grande went 20-for-27 for 74%. February 3 vs. Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon Nazarene University drained 16 three pointers and shot 60% from the field to defeat the Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team 102-61 on Tuesday evening.  Justin Patrick led the Bears with 21 points in the game to go along with six rebounds.  Timothy Russell added 10 points for the Bears. The Cougars had four players in double figures with Ben Falkenberg leading all scorers with 26 points. Andy Francis and Matt McKinley each had 11 apiece, while Robbie Taylor added 10 points. Shawnee State shot 43% from the field. From the charity strip the Bears went 10-for19-for 53%, while Mount Vernon shot 20-for-25 for 80%. [Box Score]

 
January 31 @ Cedarville

Shawnee State upset NAIA Division II No. 1 Cedarville University 61-50 and handed Cedarville their first conference lose of the season.  The Bears controlled the game from the beginning and held Cedarville to their lowest score of the season. Senior Justin Patrick led the Bears with 19 points. Patrick also pulled down six boards in the game. Sophomore Keelyn Franklin added 12 points for the Bears. Cedarville was led by Matt Harner's 13 point performance, while Daniel Rose added 12 for the Yellow Jackets. Shawnee State out rebounded Cedarville 35-30 in the game.  The Bears also out shot the Yellow Jackets 49% to 34% in the game.  Neither teams shot well from beyond the arc, as the Bears went 2-for-10 and the Yellow Jacket went 5-for-25.  At the charity strip Shawnee State went 13-for-17 for 77%, while Cedarville shot 7-for-12 for 58%. January 24 vs. Northwestern Ohio

Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team lost to Northwestern Ohio 77-73Justin Patrick led the Bears with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Ian Nixson added 14 points, while Aaron Pennington tallied a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Keelyn Franklin had 11 points and pulled down nine boards. UNOH was led by Jason Sarno who tallied 25 points, while Dustin Guthrie added 13 pints. Isaac Bowers and Josh Vorst added 12 points in the contest.Shawnee State shot 46% from the field, while UNOH shot 39%.  From beyond the arc the Bears shot 27% and the Racers shot 31%.  At the line, the Bears shot 53% and UNOH shot 65%. January 20 @ Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State lost to Ohio Dominican University 69-58. Justin Patrick led the Bears in scoring with 19 points. Patrick also had eight rebounds, three assists, and one block in the game. Aaron Pennington contributed 11 points and five rebounds in the game. Timothy Russell had 10 points and six rebounds in the game. Donald Suel led Ohio Dominican with 20 points, while Bryan West recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Shawnee State shot 37% from the field and Ohio Dominican shot 39%. Neither team shot well from beyond the arc, as Shawnee State shot 25% (3-for-12) and Ohio Dominican shot 20% (3-for-15).  At the charity strip the Bears went 9-for-15 for 60% and the Panthers went 18-for-25 for 72%. January 17 vs. Walsh

Shawnee State managed to get within five point of NAIA No. 10 ranked Walsh University but Walsh finished the game on a 26-8 run to win the game 80-57. Justin Patrick was the only Bear in double figures as he tallied 18 points in the contest.  Patrick also pulled down seven boards in the game. Walsh was led by Joe Shardo’s 22 point effort.  Jeremy Shardo added 18 points and 8 assists in the game. Kyelce Cescato added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Speck had 10 points in the game. Shawnee State shot 37% from the field, while Walsh shot 48%.  From beyond the arc, the Bears made only two 3-pointers in the game and shot 18%. Walsh shot 47% from the beyond the arc as the drained 7 3-pointers in the game.  At the line Shawnee State went 10-for-18 for 56% and Walsh made 22-for-28 for 79%. [Box Score]

 
January 16 vs. Houghton

Shawnee State picked up its first conference win of the season as the Bears defeated Houghton College 59-53. Keelyn Franklin led the Bears as he scored 15 points, pulled down six rebounds, had two steals, and two assists.  Aaron Pennington and Jason Overbeck each had 10 points in the contest. Overbeck also dished out 5 assists.  Justin Patrick pulled down 10 boards in the game. Yannick Anzuluni led Houghton with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Ryan Shay added 13 for the Highlanders. Shawnee State shot 43% from the field and Houghton shot 38%.  For 3-pointers the Bears shot 37%, while Houghton shot only 22%.  At the line Shawnee State shot 8-for-13 for 62% and Houghton shot 11-for-17 for 65%. January 8 vs. Wilberforce

Shawnee State fell 78-63 to Wilberforce University.  Justin Patrick led the Bears with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Keelyn Franklin added 13 points and Aaron Pennington had 11 points in the contest. Wilberforce’s Tim Giles led all scorers with 32 pints.  Phillip Moore contributed 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Bulldogs and Brian Butler added 10 points. From the field Shawnee State shot 44%, while Wilberforce shot 41%.  From beyond the arc the Bears shot 22% and the Bulldogs shot 33%.  At the charity strip the Bears went 17-for-24 for 71% and Wilberforce went 22-for-24 for 92%. [Box Score]

 
January 7 vs. Point Park

Shawnee State fell 70-58 to Point Park to open conference action. Justin Patrick led the Bears with a 16 point effort.  Keelyn Franklin scored 11 for the Bears, pulled down 8 boards, added 4 assists and 3 steals in the game. Point Park was led by Tony Townsend who tallied 23 points and 19 rebounds in the game.  Anton Batyatin added 21 points and John Geiger had 10 points for the Pioneers. From the field, Shawnee State shot 23-for-63 for 37%, while Point Park shot 25-for-62 for 40%.  From the charity strip, the Bears went 4-for-16 and the Pioneers went 15-for-23.  The Bears shot 29% from beyond the arc, while Point Park shot 31%.  [Box Score]

 
January 4 @ West Virginia Tech

Shawnee State fell to West Virginia Tech 83-53. Justin Patrick was the only Bear in double figures as he tallied 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in the game. Darryl Slack led WV-Tech with 20 points and 6 assists. Shawnee State shot 32% from the field in the game, while West Virginia Tech shot 47%. The Bears shot 42% and WV-Tech shot 43% in 3-point goals.  From the line the Bears shot 14-for-19 for 74% and West Virginia Tech shot 6-for-7 for 86%. 

 
January 3 @ University of Virginia-Wise

The Bears picked up a 77-73 win over University of Virginia-Wise. SSU had five players in double-figures as freshman Ian Nixson led all scorers with 17 points and dished out 4 assists. Justin Patrick contributed 14 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists for the Bears, while Timothy Russell added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.  Keelyn Franklin and Jason Overbeck had 14 points and 11 points in the game respectively. UVA-Wise was led by Josh Jordan's 16 point effort. The Bears shot 49% in the game, while UVA-Wise shot 41%.  From beyond the arc Shawnee State shot 31% and UVA-Wise shot 33%.  At the line, the Bears went 19-for-28 for 70% and UVA-Wise went 8-for-13 for 62%.

 
December 30 @ Kent State

NCAA Division I Kent State University was too much for the Shawnee State Men's Basketball Team as they fell 93-42 to the Golden Flashes. The Bears shot a dismal 33% from the field as they went 13-for-37.  From beyond the arc SSU shot only 31%.  From the line Shawnee State shot 6-for-17 for 71%.  Justin Patrick led the Bears with 9 points. The Golden Flashes had six players in double-figures as Al Fisher led all scorers with 16 points.  KSU shot 51% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.  From the line Kent State shot 9-for-15. December 20 @ Huntington

Shawnee State lost to Huntington University 93-72. Keelyn Franklin led all scorers with 21 points in the contest.  Justin Patrick recorded a double-double as he had 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with 4 assists.  Aaron Pennington added 12 points for the Bears in the contest. Huntington was led Tyler Shively who had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Kevin Kyle had 16 points and 8 rebounds.  Kellen Zawadzki came off the bench and tallied 15 points and 4 assists for HU, while Luke Smith added 11 points in the contest. Shawnee State went 28-for-60 for 47% in the game, while Huntington went 32-for-68 for 47%.  From beyond the arc the SSU shot 23% while HU shot 45%.  From the line the Bears shot 77%, while the Foresters shot 80%. December 11 @ Wilberforce

Shawnee State shot a dismal 10-for-26 from the charity strip and could not manage to put Wilberforce University away as the Bears fell 71-69 in two overtimes. Shawnee State had four players in double figures.  Ian Nixson led the offense with a career-high 20 points.  Justin Patrick recorded a double-double as he scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  Patrick also had 3 assists in the contest.  Jeremy McLeod had 13 points, while Keelyn Franklin had 12 points respectively. Phillip Moore led Wilberforce with 18 points and 7 rebounds.  Chris Olafioye tallied 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.  Orville Perkins scored 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the contest. Shawnee State shot 39% (24-for-64) from the field, while Wilberforce shot 34% (19-for-86).  From beyond the arc the Bears went 6-for-17 and Wilberforce went 2-for-18. [Box Score]

 
December 10 vs. UC Clermont

Shawnee State defeated UC Clermont 91-59.  Jeremy McLeod came off the bench to lead all scorers as he tallied a career-high 26 points.  Justin Patrick recorded a double-double as he scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Patrick also tallied 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in the contest.  Ian Nixson had a career-high 8 assists to go with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Ian Gordon led UC Clermont with 12 points and 7 rebounds.  Seth Steele and Tony Eubanks had 11 points and 10 points respectively. Shawnee State shot 50% (36-for-72) from the field and UC Clermont shot 38% (24-for-63) in the game.  Both teams did not shot well from beyond the arc as the Bears shot 29% and UC Clermont shot 14%.  From the line the Bears were 15-for-25 for 60% and the Cougars were 8-for-16 for 50%. [Box Score]

 
December 6 vs. Mount Vernon @ Mount Vernon Tournament
NAIA No. 7 ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University was too much for Shawnee State as the Bears fall 82-57.  Kyle Miller was one of two Bears in double figures as he led SSU with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.  Justin Patrick added 14 oints, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.  Jadin Thomas led MVNU with 19 points and 6 rebounds.  Ben Falkenberg had 14 pints, while Travis Brown added 11 points respectively.  SSU shot 33% from the field, while MVNU shot 53%.  The Bears were 3-for-18 in 3-pointers, while the Cougars were 8-for-22.  From the line Shawnee State went 14-for-18 for 77% and Mount Vernon went 10-for-16 for 63%. December 5 vs. Urbana @ Mount Vernon Tournament
Kyle Miller drained a free-throw completeing the 3-point play to give the Bears the 65-64 edge over Urbana on the opening day of the Mount Vernon Tournament.  Miller finished the game with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.  Justin Patrick led the Bears wtih 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Timothy Russell added 12 points and 5 rebounds.  Ian Nixson had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in the contest.  UU's David Brown led all scorers with 18 points, while Rob Matthews added 10 points for the Blue Knights.  Shawnee State shot 41% from the field in the game while Urbana shot 36%.  From beyond the arc the Bears shot a dismal 1-for-8, while Urbana shot 6-for-24.  From the line SSU was 22-for-33 for 67%, while UU was 12-for-21 for 57%. November 25 vs. Cedarville

NAIA No. 7 ranked Cedarville University was too much for the Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team as the Bears fall 74-62 in the contest.  Shawnee State falls to 3-4 overall on the season.  Cedarville improves to 7-0 overall on the season. Shawnee State’s Ian Nixson led all scorers with 18 points.  Justin Patrick added 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist in the game. Cedarville had four players in double figures as Matt Harner and Christopher Walker each tallied 11 points.  Walker also had 9 rebounds in the game.  Ricardo Alliman tallied a double-double as had 10 points in the game and pulled down 10 boards. Shawnee State shot 40% from the field as the Yellow Jackets shot 45%.  From the line, the Bears went 7-for-14 for 36% and Cedarville went 7-for-11 for 64%.  From beyond the arc, SSU was 5-for-13 and CU was 7-for-12. November 21 vs. Ohio Christian

After a slow start the Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team defeated Ohio Christian 86-62.  Shawnee State had three players in double-figures.  Kyle Miller and Timothy Russell each had a team-high 14 points.  Miller added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals and Russell added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.  Ian Nixson added 13 points in the contest. OCU’s Delorean Glanton led all scorers with 15 points.  Tay Spell had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 assists for Trailblazers. Shawnee State shot 49% (33-for-97) from the field while Ohio Christian shot 36% (21-for-61).  From the arc the Bears went 6-for-14 and the Trailblazers went 7-for-20.  From the line the Bears shot 88% and Ohio Christian shot 73%.     [Box Score]

 
November 18 vs. Rio Grande

Despite finishing the game on a 14-4 run, the Shawnee State Men’s Basketball team could not get closer than 3 points to rival University of Rio Grande and fell 75-71 in the contest.  Shawnee State was led by Dick Hyland Player of the Game Kyle Miller.  Miller had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal in the game.  Aaron Pennington had 12 pints, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist in the contest for the Bears.  Ian Nixon also finished in double figures with 12 points.  Brandon Ivery led Rio Grande and was named the Dick Hyland Player of the game.  Ivery had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and an assist in the contest.  Brett Beucler and Doug Campbell added 16 points and 14 points respectively for the Red Storm.  From the field Shawnee State was 18-for-58 for 48%, while Rio Grande went 28-for-67 for 42%.  From beyond the arc, the Bears shot 27% and Rio Grande shot 50%.  The Bears went 11-for-19 from the free throw line and the Red Storm was 12-for-22. November 15 vs. College of the Ozarks

Shawnee State fell 82-62 to College of the Ozarks on the final day of the Harry Weinbrecht Classic.  Justin Patrick led the Bears with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks, and an assist.  Kyle Miller added 13 points and 7 rebounds.  College of the Ozarks had three players in double figures.  Corey Stone led all scorers with 23 points.  He also had 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.  Colt Blair added 21 points and 4 rebounds, while Jared Howerton had 15 points and 6 rebounds.  Shawnee State was outshot from the field 37% to 44%.  Shawnee State was 0-10 from the arc and College of the Ozarks was 10-for-26 for 38%.  The Bears went 24-for-33 from the free throw line for 73% and CofO was 10-for-14 for 71%.  [Box Score]

 
November 14 vs. Madonna

Shawnee State defeated Madonna University 83-66 on the opening night of the Harry Weinbrecht Classic. Kyle Miller led the Bears with 22 points in the game.  He also tallied 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.  Aaron Pennington recorded a double-double for the Bears as he tallied 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Justin Patrick added 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal for the Bears.  Ian Nixson also tallied 12 points in the contest.  Leroy Allen lead the Madonna with 19 points, while Kevin McLoughlin had 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Shawnee State shot 52.% (31-59) from the field compared to Madonna who shot 39.% (27-68).  The Bears were 6-for-12 for 50% from the 3-point arc while Madonna shot 6-for-28 for 21%.  From the line SSU shot 15-for-24 for 62% and Madonna went 6-for-10 for 60%. [Box Score]

 
November 10 vs. Pikeville

Shawnee State led the entire game until Pikeville’s Justin Hicks buried a 3-pointer with 8:30 to go in the game to tie the game at 52-52.  From there the Bears only recaptured the lead once, but couldn’t maintain it as Pikeville went on a 7-0 run to finish the game and get the 65-60 win over Shawnee State.  Justin Patrick tallied a double-double for the Bears as he scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.  Ian Nixson had 16 points in the game and 4 rebounds.  Aaron Pennington tallied 8 points and pulled down 8 boards respectively for the Bears. Josh Samarco led Pikeville offense with 13 points, while Charles Bronson added 12 points.  Justin Hicks had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists for the Bears of Pikeville.  J.B. Smiley added 10 points and 7 rebounds. From the field Shawnee State shot 39% (20-52), while Pikeville shot 36% (24-66).  Shawnee State shot 33% from beyond the arc compared to Pikeville who shot 27%.  From the line, SSU was 15-19 for 79% and Pikeville went 10-14 for 64%. November 8 vs. West Virginia Tech

Shawnee State Men’s Basketball Team opened the season with a 70-68 win over West Virginia Tech Saturday evening.  Freshman Ian Nixson made two free throws with 24 seconds to go in the game to give the Bears a 3-point led that West Virginia Tech was not able to recover from.  Kyle Miller led the Bears with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in his debut as a Bear.  Nixson, Justin Patrick, and Keelyn Frankin each added 12 points respectively.  Patrick also had 5 rebounds in the contest.  Shawnee State shot 43.4% (9-22) for the game and West Virginia Tech shot 36.7% (11-30) from the field.  West Virginia Tech had the advantage from the line as they shot 66.7% (18-27) compared to the Bears 53.1% (17-32).  [Box Score]
