February 19 @ Cedarville

Shawnee State lost to Cedarville University 74-43.  Shawnee State struggled on the offensive end of the floor making just 16-of-52 attempts from the field overall and just 1-of-18 three-pointers.  Cedarville, on the other hand, shot 48% (27-56) overall.  The Yellow Jackets made 10-of-23 attempts from beyond the arc.  Jeremy McLeod was the only Bear to reach double figures.  He had 10 points in just 11 minutes of play.  Justin Patrick added 9 points and 5 rebounds.  Chris Beals led Cedarville with 13 points.  Thirteen of fifteen players scored for the Yellow Jackets.  [Box Score]

 
February 16 @ Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State lost to Ohio Dominican 84-71.  Shawnee State led 38-35 at the half and extended the lead to 41-33 on a 3-pointer by Keelyn Franklin to open the second period of play.  The Panthers then went on an 18-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 51-45 lead.  The Bears could get no closer than three points the remainder of the game.  Shawnee State shot 49.2% (29-59) from the field overall and 7-of-17 from beyond the arc.  Ohio Dominican was 27-of-56 from the field for 48.2% and 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers won the rebounding battle 34-31.  Ohio Dominican held a decided advantage at the free throw line converting 24-of-29 attempts.  Shawnee State made just 6-of-11 free throws.  Justin Patrick led Shawnee State with 16 points and 6 rebounds.  Aaron Davis had 10 points.  Brian Busch led Ohio Dominican with 27 points and 11 rebounds.  Donald Suel had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Sonny Statmiller had 12 points.  [Box Score]

 
February 13 vs. Wilberforce

Shawnee State defeated Wilberforce University 70-60.  Shawnee State struggled early and trailed 14-5 six minutes into the contest.  The Bears then went on a 15-3 run to take a 20-17 lead with 6:16 to play in the half.  Leading 32-25 at the break, Shawnee State used a 16-6 run to start the second period to lead 48-31 and never looked back.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 24 points and 7 rebounds.  He became just the 11th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.  Justin Patrick added 12 points and 6 rebounds.  Keelyn Franklin had 11 points and Jason Overbeck added a career-high 10 points.  Rawlston Charles led Wilberforce with 23 points.  Gerald Akridge was the only other Bulldog to reach double figures with 11 points.   Shawnee State shot 43% (18-42) from the field.  Wilberforce made 23-of-53 attempts from the field for 43.4%.  The Bears held a decided advantage at the free throw line making 26-of-34 attempts compared to 8-of-12 attempts for Wilberforce.  [Box Score]

 
February 9 vs. Mt. Vernon

Fifteenth ranked Mt. Vernon Nazarene had little trouble beating Shawnee State 87-48.  Shawnee State could get little going on the offensive end of the floor as they made just 17-of-52 from the field for 32.7%.  The Bears made just 4-of-18 three-pointers and 10-of-17 free throws.  Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon was lighting up the nets.  The Cougars made 32-of-62 (51.6%) attempts overall and 14-of-28 from beyond the arc.  Mt. Vernon also held a 42-35 edge in rebounding.  Aaron Davis and Justin Patrick led Shawnee State with 8 points apiece.   Ben Falkenberg had 21 points for Mt. Vernon.  Jadin Thomas had 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Connor Gregg chipped in with 16 points.   [Box Score]

 
February 6 @ Rio Grande

Shawnee State defeated Rio Grande 73-58.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 25 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.  He was 8-of-11 from the field including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the foul line.  Kevin McDonald had 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Wes Jordan added 10 points.  Brandon Ivery led Rio Grande with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  PJ RAse had 15 points and Will Norwell had 10 points.  Shawnee State shot 61.4% (27-44) from the field compared to just 37.7% (20-53) for Rio Grande.  The Bears made 7-of-10 three-pointers and 12-of-19 free throw attempts.  Rio Grande made just 4-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc and 14-of-20 foul shots.  Shawnee State won the rebounding battle 36-24.  [Box Score]

 
February 2 vs. Walsh

Fifth ranked Walsh University proved too tough for Shawnee State as they snapped the Bears’ three game win streak with an 84-43 win.  Walsh jumped out to an early 14-5 lead and never looked back.  The Cavaliers dominated nearly ever facet of the game.  For just the second time this season, Shawnee State was held to under 40% shooting from the field.  The Bears made just 16-of-58 shots for a season-low 27.6%.  Meanwhile, Walsh made 29-of-55 shots for 53%.  Walsh was 15-of-28 from beyond the arc while the Bears made 4-of-18 three-pointers.   [Box Score]  Aaron Davis was the only Bear to reach double figures with 13 points.   Eder Araujo led Walsh with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  Corey Jones had 14 points.  Brandon Weems added 10 points and 7 assists. 

 
January 29 @ Urbana

Shawnee State won its third straight game with a 74-66 victory over Urbana University.  Shawnee Statemoves into second place in the AMC South Division.  Aaron Davis, the reigning AMC Player of the Week, continued his hot shooting as he led the Bears with 24 points.  He was 8-of-16 overall, 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-4 from the foul line.  Davis has averaged nearly 27 points per game over the course of the Bears' winning streak.  Keelyn Franklin had career highs of 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Justin Patrick added his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Dorian Hoover led Urbana with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  David Brown added 14 points for the Blue Knights.  As a team, Shawnee State made 25-of-52 attempts from the field for 48%.  The Bears were 8-of-16 from beyond the arc and a near perfect 16-of-17 at the foul line.  Urbana was 24-of-55 from the field for 43.6%.  The Blue Knights made 8-of-16 three-pointers and 10-of-13 free throws.  [Box Score

 
January 26 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State defeated Ohio Dominican University 58-55.  Shawnee State trailed 20-11 with 3:35 to play in the first half as neither team could get it in gear offensively.  The Bears were able to end the half on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 22-18.  It was the fewest points scored in a half by the Bears since 1997.  Bryan Robinson gave the Bears their first lead of the game at 23-22 with 16:34 to play.  The lead was short lived as ODU went on a 13-4 run to go on top 35-27.  From that point forward, the game featured 8 lead changes and 4 ties.  The Bears took the lead at 56-55 on a jumper by Aaron Davis.  ODU had two chances to take the lead on their next possession but Justin Patrick corralled Adriene Rodriguez’ missed three-pointer with 18 seconds left on the clock.  Davis got the ball and was immediately fouled.  He drained both free throws to give the Bears the winning margin.  Jim McCurdy had two looks from three on ODU’s next possession, but was off the mark with both.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 32 a career-high 32 points.  Bryan Robinson had 13 points.  Justin Patrick had 10 points and 12 rebounds.  Donald Suel led ODU with 15 points.  Jim McCurdy had 14 points and 6 rebounds.  Brian Busch added 10 points and 6 boards.  Shawnee State overcame a poor-shooting first half, 8-for-28 for 28.6% and made 14-of-25 attempts for 56% in the second half.  The Bears shot 41.5% from the field overall compared to 35.7% (20-56) for Ohio Dominican.  ODU entered the game as the leagues best rebounding team with a +7.3 rebound/game margin.  However, Shawnee State won the battle of the boards 39-33.  [Box Score]

 
January 22 vs. Cedarville

Shawnee State upset 23rd ranked Cedarville University 65-63.  Shawnee State built a 27-15 lead with 7:09 to play in the first half.  Cedarville used a 13-1 run to tie the game at 28-28 with 3:54 to play in the half.  Shawnee State held a 37-35 lead coming out of the locker room and led by as many as 7 in the second half.  The Bears held a 63-57 lead with 1:39 to play.  Chris Beals drained a three-pointer to cut the lead to three followed by a Grant Walker three-pointer with 23 seconds left on the clock to tie the game.  Justin Patrick’s shot in the lane with 2 second left on the clock bounced high of the rim.  The Bears’ Kevin McDonald tipped in the miss as time expired.  A review of the video showed that the ball was tipped with 0.2 seconds left on the clock.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 24 points on the night.  Justin Patrick had 14 points and 5 rebounds for the Bears.  Bryan Robinson had 8 points and 9 rebounds.  Daniel Rose had 14 points and 8 rebounds to lead Cedarville.  Grant Walker had 11 points.  Chris Beals and Christopher Walker had 10 points apiece.  Shawnee State connected on 27-of-55 attempts from the field for 49%.  The Bears were 7-of-13 from beyond the arc and 4-of-8 from the foul line.  Cedarville made 26-of-59 shots from the field for 44%.  The Yellow Jackets made just 8-of-26 three-point attempts and 3-of-7 free throws.  [Box Score]

 
January 19 @ Mount Vernon
Shawnee State lost to Mount Vernon Nazarene University 78-68.  Justin Patrick lead Shawnee State 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Kevin McDonald and Josh Reed chipped in with 13 points apiece.  Jadin Thomas led MVNU with 23 points.  Mount Vernon won the rebounding battle 32-22. 
 
January 15 @ Wilberforce

Shawnee State went on the road to defeat AMC foe Wilberforce University 72-68.  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 18 points and 5 assists.  Aaron Davis had 14 points.  Kevin McDonald chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds.  Justin Patrick added 11 points for the Bears.  Rawlston Charles led Wilberforce with 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Andre Lyles had 12 points.  Wilberforce shot 60% (28-47) from the field compared to 48% (23-48) for Shawnee State.  The Bears overcame WU's efficient shooting by connecting on 8-of-15 shots behind the arc compared to 1-of-9 for Wilberforce.  SSU also held a decided advantage at the free throw line.  The Bears made 18-of-28 attempts while the Bulldogs were a perfect 11-of-11 from the field.  [Box Score]

 
January 12 @ Walsh

Shawnee State lost to 4th ranked Walsh University 74-60.  Shawnee State held an 8-3 lead 8 minutes into the game as neither team could get on track offensively.  Walsh used a 9-3 run to take the lead for good at 12-11 with 8:42 to play in the half.  Up 31-22 at the half, Walsh used a 13-3 run to start the second period and put the game out of reach.  [Box Score]  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 23 points.  Aaron Davis had 13 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds.  They were the only Bears to reach double figures.  Josh Johnson led Walsh with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Kyelce Cescato had 12 points and 7 boards.  Corey Jones and Ryan Butler had 11 and 10 points respectively. 

 
January 9 vs. Rio Grande

Shawnee State used an 18-3 run that spanned from six minutes to play in the first half through the first two minutes of the second half to end a five-game skid and win its American Mideast Conference opener 93-75 over Rio Grande. Josh Reed was named the Dick Hyland Player of the Game as he led the Bears with 26 points on the night.  He was 8-of-14 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line.  Aaron Davis chipped in with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Wes Jordan added a career-high 10 points.  Brett Beucler, Rio Grande’s Dick Hyland Player of the Game had 22 points and 4 rebounds.  Doug Campbell had 12 points for the Redmen.  Shawnee State shot 59.6% (34-57) from the field compared to 41% (25-91) for Rio Grande.  The Bears dominated the paint scoring 54 points from the inside to just 26 points for Rio Grande.  [Box Score]

 
January 2 @ Northwood

Shawnee University dropped its fourth straight game with a 78-67 loss at Northwood University.  The teams played a relatively even game in all aspects but one.  Shawnee State made 25-of-60 attempts from the field including 10-of-28 from beyond the arc.  Northwood was 25-of-54 from the field overall and 10-of-27 on three-pointers.  Northwood held a slight rebounding edge at 37-34.  Shawnee State committed 17 turnovers compared to 18 turnovers for Northwood.  Northwood, however, held a significant advantage at the free throw line.  The Bears made must 7-of-16 attempts from the stripe while Northwood capitalized on 18-of-25 attempts.  The eleven point advantage at the line was the difference in the ball game.  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 18 points.  Sean Elliott added 12 points.  Aaron Davis and Justin Brinkman had 11 and 10 points respectively.  Marvin Owens led Northwood with 21 points and 8 rebounds.  Chad Radosevich had 15 points.  DeSean White chipped in with 11 points and 9 boards.  [Box Score]

 
December 29 vs. Wayne State (@ Findlay)

Shawnee University lost to NCAA Division II Wayne State University 66-59.  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 16 points on the day.  Sean Elliott had 11 points and 4 assists.  Aaron Davis tallied 10 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.  Lendyn Davis led Wayne State with 20 points.  Wynn Sarden had 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Lorenzo McClelland had 10 points.  The difference in the game came at the free throw line.  Shawnee State hit 10-of-15 attempts compared to 20-of-26 attempts for Wayne State.  Shawnee State shot 42% (23-55) from the field while holding Wayne State to 38.5% (20-52).  Wayne State held a slight 36-28 advantage on the glass.  [Box Score]

 
December 28 @ Findlay

Shawnee University lost to NCAA Division II #15 Findlay University by a score of 92-67.  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 23 points on the night.  Sean Elliott was the only other Bear to reach double figures with 11.  Morgan Lewis led Findlay with 24 points.  Marcus Parker had 19 points and 7 assists.  Lee Roberts and Tyler Evans had 12 points apiece for the Oilers.  Shawnee State shot a respectable 43% (24-56) from the field.  Findlay made 34-of-65 attempts for 53%.  The deciding stat in the game was the Bears’ 23 turnovers which led to 33 points for Findlay.  [Box Score]

 
December 21 vs. Huntington

Shawnee State lost to 12th ranked Huntington University 77-66.  In a game that was much closer than indicated by the final score, Shawnee State never got on track offensively.  The Bears made just 24-of-72 shots from the field for 33%.  They made just 7-of-25 from beyond the arc.  Meanwhile, Huntington connected on 25-of-55 attempts from the field for 46%.  The Foresters held a decided advantage at the free throw line making 25-of-33 foul shots compared to 11-of-14 for Shawnee State.  [Box Score]  Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 24 points.  Sean Elliot had 23 points.  Justin Patrick had 9 points and 9 rebounds.  Doug Sheckler and Kevin Kyle had 18 points apiece for Huntington.  Kyle Benge added 16 points.  Tyler Shively and Luke Smith had 11 points apiece. 

 
December 14 vs. OSU-Marion

Shawnee State cruised past OSU-Marion 86-57.  Shawnee State used a 17-2 run midway through the first half to break open the game.  From 7:31 on, OSU-Marion was never closer than 8 points.  The Scarlet Waves trailed 43-20 at the half.   Shawnee State dominated nearly every facet of the game.  The Bears shot 49% (36-73) from the field compared to 32% (20-63) for OSU-Marion.  SSU won the rebounding battle 56-29.  SSU held a 52-8 advantage in the paint.   Aaron Davis and Josh Reed had 13 points apiece.  Davis added 6 assists.  Kevin McDonald had 12 points.  Justin Patrick had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Marcus McCants led OSU-Marion with 28 points and 4 rebounds.  Aaron Wetherell had 14 points and 7 boards.  [Box Score]

 
December 8 @ College of the Ozarks

Shawnee State lost to 11th ranked College of the Ozarks in double overtime.  Shawnee State falls to 5-3 on the season.  Ozarks improves to 9-1.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Josh Reed had 18 points and 7 rebounds.  Justin Patrick had 15 points and Justin Brinkman added 10 points and 14 rebounds.  Corey Stone led the College of the Ozarks with 28 points and 10 rebounds.  Daniel Bandy had 25 points.  Colt Blair chipped in with 14 points.  Shawnee State held a 52-38 advantage on the boards, but that advantage was negated by 26 turnovers.  The Bears also struggled from the foul line making just 21-of-32 attempts for 65%.  Seven of those misses came in the final minutes of regulation.  [Box Score]

 
December 4 @ Point Park

Shawnee State defeated Point Park 69-66.  Sean Elliot led the Bears with a career-high 20 points.  Aaron Davis had 15 points.  Justin Brinkman added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Bears.  Shawnee State shot 44% (22-50) from the field compared to 32.9% (16-74) from Point Park.  SSU out rebounded PPU 43-38 in the game.  [Box Score]

 
November 24-25 @ Collier Tournament (Hanover)

Shawnee State finished 2nd at Hanover's Collier Tournament.  Shawnee State opened play with an 83-54 drubbing of Brescia University (2-4) on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears shot 48% (33-69) from the field while holding Brescia to 29% (17-59) shooting.  Shawnee State dominated the boards 45-31.  The Bears tallied 18 assists while committing just 10 turnovers.  [Box Score]  Josh Reed led the Bears with 21 points.  Justin Patrick had 18 points.  Aaron Davis added 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Shawnee State's four-game win streak came to an end with a 79-62 loss to Hanover on Sunday afternoon.  Both teams shot 50% from the field and the rebounds were nearly even.  However, Hanover drained 15-of-30 attempts from beyond the arc and made 12-of-15 free throws.  Shawnee State was 5-of-14 on three-pointers and 7-of-8 from the foul line.  [Box Score]  Josh Reed was the only Bear to reach double figures with 16 points. 

 
November 20 vs. Notre Dame

Shawnee State University Men’s Basketball Team cruised past 14th ranked Notre Dame College by a score of 98-75.  After trailing 10-8 early, the Bears went on a 15-2 run to lead 23-12.  Notre Dame never got closer than six and trailed 51-24 at the half.  The Bears led 81-50 with 10:55 to play and Coach Jeff Hamilton cleared the bench for the second straight game.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State scored 33 points on 20 Notre Dame turn overs.  The Bears dominated the paint 40-24 and the glass 35-25.  Shawnee State shot 55.6% (35-63) from the field including 55% (11-20) from beyond the arc.  The Bears tallied 19 assists in the contest.  Notre Dame was 23-of-49 from the field for 47% overall and 8-of-18 on three-pointers.  Aaron Davis led the Bears with 24 points.  He was 8-of-11 from the field overall and a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arc.  Josh Reed had 15 points.  Sean Elliott scored 14 points and had 3 assists.  Justin Patrick came off the bench with 13 points.  Kyle Miller led Notre Dame with 20 points.  Jerome Pierce had 17 points and 6 assists.  Karim McFarlane had 10 points. 

 
November 18 vs. Muskingum

Shawnee State defeated Muskingum College 82-67.   The game was not nearly as close as the final score indicated.  Shawnee State led 50-28 at halftime and held a 65-42 lead with 9:14 to play in the game.  From that point forward, the Bears played with freshmen and seldom used reserves. Josh Reed led the Bears with 15 points and 7 rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.  Freshman Keelyn Franklin came off the bench with 12 points and 5 rebounds and helped contain Muskingum’s best offensive player, Brandon Todd.  Sean Elliott had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Tyler Felt had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Muskingum.  Brandon Todd, Trevor Scott, and Cory Borquinn had 11 points each for the Muskies. Shawnee State torched the nets in the first half connecting on 22-of-36 attempts for 61%.  The Bears shot 57% (34-of-60) for the entire game.  Muskingum managed to make just 21-of-53 of its field goal attempts for 39.6%.  Shawnee State dominated the glass 39-28.  [Box Score]

 
November 16 vs. Northwest Ohio

Shawnee State opened its 2007-2008 home schedule with a 90-80 win over Northwest Ohio.  The Bears trailed for much of the game and found themselves down 56-46 with 15 minutes to play.  Shawnee State managed to tie the game at 63-63 with 9:23 remaining, but were unable to grab the lead until a Justin Brinkman tip in made the score 71-69 with 5:53 left on the clock.  Shawnee State held a 77-73 lead with 1:41 remaining when UNOH's Josh Vorst was hit with a technical foul for throwing an intentional elbow to the face of Aaron Davis.  Josh Reed drained the two free throws to effectively ice the game.  Reed led Shawnee State with a career-high 33 points.  Justin Patrick came off the bench with 14 points and 6 rebounds.  Aaron Davis added 12 points.  Justin Brinkman had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.  Aaron Braun led UNOH with 22 points.  Jason Sarno had 21 points.  Isaac Bowers had 12 points and Josh Vorst chipped in with 11 points.  Shawnee State connected on 30-of-60 attempts from the field for 50% overall, but just 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.  UNOH made 27-of-63 attempts overall for 43% and 10-19 three-pointers for 52.6%.  Shawnee State held a decided advantage at the line making 26-of-32 attempts compared to 16-of-21 attempts for UNOH.  [Box Score]

 
November 9 @ Pikeville

Shawnee State opened the 2007-2008 season with an 85-64 loss at Pikeville College.  Shawnee State led throughout much of the first half, but could never generate a lead greater than 4 points.  Pikeville took the lead for good at 29-27 with 3:17 left in the first half.  The Bears committed 7 turnovers and scored just two points (two free throws by Aaron Davis) over the next 5 minutes of play.  Pikeville stretched its lead to 44-29 over that span.  Josh Reed led the Bears with 22 points.  Aaron Davis had 12 points.  Jeff Ferguson, a transfer from Missouri, led Pikeville with 25 points.  Shawnee State shot just 40.4% from the field compared to 58.2% for Pikeville.  Shawnee State committed 25 turnovers resulting in 30 Pikeville points.  [Box Score]
