How to handle an emergency situation in a classroom or on the campus.

In an emergency situation it is so easy to forget the phone numbers that need to be utilized. Thus, in every classroom a “green” sign is posted near the chalkboard containing emergency phone numbers.

During the normal work day access to a telephone in an emergency situation is relatively easy. In the evening this is a different story with offices closed, etc. Thus, emergency phones with instructions are available in the following locations:
  • Massie Hall - 3rd Floor near room 301
  • VRCFA - 2nd floor near the elevator
  • Health Science Building - 2nd floor near room 206
  • Kricker Hall - In the lobby
  • ATC building – On the 2nd floor near room 205

EMERGENCY IN YOUR CLASSROOM

If an emergency should arise during your class session, the following procedures should be followed:

Contact the Campus Security office. The emergency phone in each building connects directly with the Security Office. College personnel should use their own good judgment in handling a crisis if a security person, ext. 3232, cannot be contacted immediately. If an individual is in obvious grave danger and time is of the essence, dial 9-911 from any University phone.

The campus is equipped with fire alarm systems throughout each building. If such an emergency exists, contact the fire department immediately at 9-911. In addition, Security at ext. 3232, should be contacted after reporting the fire to the Fire Department.

When contacting Security at ext. 3232 give details as to the type of emergency, the location, and your name. An incident report needs to be filed on each emergency.
