SSU students win poster awards at Celebration of Scholarship
Students at Shawnee State University submitted posters and won several awards during the Celebration of Scholarship in April.
Three judges used a rubric that listed five categories and five possible scores from one to five. The categories were poster content, level of scholarship, visually aesthetic, grammar and how the student answered relevant questions about his/her project.
Kenneth Livingston, Ashley Sanders and Julia Steinhauer, early childhood majors, won the SSU Faculty Award for "Wired Up, Wound Down: Music as an Educational Tool." The poster was about the value of music throughout the day to enhance brain development, strengthen learning and manage learning environments.
Amber Arnold and Lindsey Peacock, early childhood majors, won the Gary Gemmer Award for "Inside Out, Outside In." The poster was about moving learning beyond the four walls of a classroom.
Nursing students Keri Kuhn, R.N., Helen Scherer, R.N., Hayley Castle, R.N., and Lori Castle, R.N., won the Gary Gemmer Outstanding Poster Presentation Award for "Teen Pregnancy and STD Prevention."
Tina Veach, R.N., Tina Lang, R.N., Taryn Scott, R.N., and Erika Isaacs, R.N., won the Clark Memorial Library Excellence in Research Award for "Preventing Patient Falls: An Evidence-Based Practice Approach."
