The Department of Teacher Education is an NCATE accredited teacher preparation department that prepares students to become learner- centered, inquiring professionals for the classrooms of the 21st century.  The teacher preparation program requires a strong foundation in an academic content or teaching area with that of a professional development program, which prepares entry level teachers for the dynamic responsibilities of contemporary schools.

Today's teachers are required to continue their professional development throughout their careers.  The vision of teaching which guides the teacher education program at Shawnee State is that of a reflective and inquiring professional.  Our program emphasizes lifelong learning in addition to the acquisition of specific skills and knowledge that are essential for an entry level teacher.

To contact the Department of Teacher Education, you may call 740.351.3451 or see contact information for the Chair of the Department and/or the Department Secretary.  For information about the Pre-professional Services Office call 740.351.3571 or see contact information for the Director, the Pre-professional Services Representative.
