Accreditation and Certification

Shawnee State University offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Technology.  The program is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory (NAACLS), 8410 West Bryn Ave., Suite 670 Chicago, IL 60631-3415, phone 773.714.8880.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the certification examination given by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NCA) to become certified.  

Students who successfully complete the Associate of Applied Science Degree and take the ASCP will become Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), and students successful in their attempt to pass the NCA will be titled Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLT).
