Olivia Fliehman, a Sabina, Ohio native, is experiencing all of the different ways she can help people through the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Shawnee State University.
“I chose Shawnee because it was a good distance from home and I knew I would be getting a good education for a good price,” Fliehman said, who is in her second year in the program.
Fliehman wanted a degree path that would lead to a job right after graduation that could then be expanded professionally with higher education. She knew her main drive for a career was to ultimately support others.
“I wanted to do something where I could help people,” she said. “I looked for a degree that I could go to work right away, but I could still further it if I wanted to afterwards.”
While her time in the program has been busy, Fliehman feels the work has been worth the time and effort. She has been able to gain experience and exposure by attending clinicals each semester, allowing her to work directly with people in need.
“I’ve met a lot of really good people who are willing to help when I’m in need,” she said of her clinical experience. “My favorite has been my pediatrics clinical and getting to go to the Vern Riffe schools to work with the school nurse and kids.”
SSU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program provides the educational foundations to meet the ongoing changes in science, technology, nature, and settings of nursing practice. Students completing the program find themselves ready to apply for competitive nursing roles after graduation.
